help me choose a car, little runaround needed

hi currently drive a 97 honda accord 2.0 that has been totalled by a hit and run driver who then scarpered probably because he had no insurance! just been down to a garage today (well a back yard guy that fixs cars and he reckons its gonna to be £1000 just for parts and paint).

so i was looking to get a little runaround only need it to cover 30 miles a day, i was looking at a little fiesta zetec 1.4i, maybe a focus. love something with a bit oomph but i know if you get something a bit sporty it needs to be well looked after and in my budget i just cant think of a decent car.

oh yeah budget. 2k.. I know its not much but i havent bought a car in 7 years so ive sort of lost touch on what is out there.

any help even if its a focus 2.0i or something at least i can look it up.
oh yeah doesnt have to have a big car although it did make me think after the accident that if i had a smaller car whether i would have got out walking!!!

thanks

Would do exactly that stay away from the poor built cars.

how about a alfa romeo 156? anyone have bad things to say about that car. looks nice and the prices are good now.

I used to own a 156. Unless you are an auto electrician and know a tame mechanic I would avoid. My CAM belt went causing £2.5k worth of damage to the engine at 56k miles. Wasn't due to be changed till 64k miles. Had it scrapped as wasn't worth it. Having said that I still miss it, just happy I don't own it anymore.

However parts are very expensive if anything breaks.

Everyone has good and bad experiences with all cars so I'm sure you will get a lot of people giving advise only to find someone will disagree.

if you see a car you like, check out cost of repairs for later on or drop on a fantastic deal with a car that's only done 20,000 miles on a 51 plate.

I still stick by my guns and wouldn't recommend a vauxhall as I've had very bad experiences with the ecotec engine.
