Ok,

Had it with My Touch HD, just can't get on with it so it's going on ebay

Now the replacement do I go Iphone 3G (I had one and loved it but had to sell to ease some cash flow issues) or a HTC Hero? Honest opinions please, have no bias so no iphone fanboy BS, I've already blinkered by it!

I have both a Hero and an iPhone, and the Hero is let down by the sluggishness

BUT

apparently there's a firmware update that will update that soon.

Depends what you need the most - good media phone or good multi-tasking/social networking phone.

That's the kinna comparison I'm looking for, how's battery life on the hero, that's what kills the iphone for me

Better than the 3gs. A day of average use takes about 50-60% of the battery. It's actually lasting longer the more charges I give it.

3gs still sucks a little more juice then I'd like.

I charge both every night though so it's not a massive deal.

The Hero's 7 screens make the iPhone feel old though. It's just the sluggishness that lets it down but the upgrade looks like it will fix it. I don't know when it's out though.

I hated the n97 when I used one. The screen is resistive touch so doesn't feel as fluid as either the hero or the iphone.

It's got a better camera then the other two though and a physical keyboard. They're bringing out a slim n97 apparently so probably worth waiting for it.

dont get the n97, the hero is pretty good but slugishness and general all round simplicity lets it down, the iphone is propably your best bet, cant get bored with them, and just ordered 1 myself.

I have an n97.... absolutely hate it.

Its heavy and unwieldy and I dont know how to do anything with it.

I'm not a techie and dont understand the damn phone. Took me about 3 hrs this morning to work out how to retrieve a voicemail... I wish I had something more me-friendly now I dont have anyone to help me learn how to use it.

I've basically worked out how to use it to call people and how to text... thats all I can do so far :(

I agree.

I think that if you get the Hero or the iPhone then you'd be happy, especially when the Hero is speeded up a bit.

I'm looking forward to seeing which one gets the Spotify app on it's platform too. That could be a massive app.

Agree, spotify would be a killer app, not sure if Apple would allow it, though it would show whether they are true to their ethos that itunes is there to drive hardware sales not the other way around

I know the spotify guys submitted it and Apple are looking at it. It'll be a big decision either way. The App looks incredible though.

Loadsa free apps from OVI store, and plenty of cheap ones too. Not sure about cons, as I haven't found one yet.

I hated the n97 when I used one. The screen is resistive touch so doesn't feel as fluid as either the hero or the iphone. I've not tried either of those, but did re-calibrate the touch screen and is so responsive now. Can't put it down.

The slim is apparently going to be an 8 or 16 gig only, and missing quite a few things, but can't remember what. That's why the White version is different as there is some stuff missing off that compared to the Black version.

COM, I'll help you with it. It's true it does take some figuring out, but when you have, it's orgasmic. My last 10 phones have been Nokias tho, so I am biased, but even so. Voicemail should be press and hold 1 on the keypad. This is between Options and Contacts at the bottom of screen.

I've basically worked out how to use it to call people and how to text... thats all I can do so far :(

I recently got a iPhone 3G. I knew what to expect after having an iPod Touch for 2 years. Still blew me away how slick it is.

If only the battery life was a bit better...

Camera wise, just slide the slider on the back and that's it. You capture with either the button on top of the phone on the right, or with on-screen button (fiddly)

Music wise, open up PC Suite and connect your phone. Click and drag music files from PC to the main part of PC Suite where it says along the lines of "Click and drag items here". It sorts it all out for you.

Simples.

Thanks all, I think I'm still leaning toward the Iphone 3G, it's the only phone that I kept for a long time (usually I'd change every couple of months) and also it's the only phone I've missed since getting rid
