Ok, so its all done and dusted..but now it need a title. Here's what I did...

I realised on practice, that children, even when presented with lots of different media (pencils, paint, pastels etc) always reached for the pencil when asked to draw an item

I taught a reconaissance (finding out) session where I gave children lots of media, and as expected the just used the pencils.
I then planned and taught a sequence of lessons in skills- one lesson for charcoal, one for pastel, one for chalks.
Finally I taught a final session, and observed whether the children would still just use pencil or also use the other materials.

So basically, I was looking at whether skills led sessions would influence whether a child would select a certain media, or stay with the 'comfortable choice' the pencil.

I need a catchy questions or statement for my dissertation but can't think of one!!

Exploring how... or Does giving children... kind of title...

help?

Exploring Influence of Skill Led Sessions in Primary Teaching

It's a title, it won't matter very much!

I don't have a title idea but I am intrigued with what the result was with your experiment.
Did the kids chose to use other media opposed to the pencils?

You can take a horse to water but a pencil must be lead.

what about the rose report, does it mention anything about skills in art?

well, the final cycle, my heart dropped because every single one picked up the pencil, but fantastically they drew a swift outline, and then progressed to use pastels, charcoal, paint and chalk all on the same painting, they looked brilliant.

My star was a little lassie who went from 1st session drawing around a banana as her picture, to producing a fantastic image of the glass with a perfect ellipsis and used 4 different media.

well I know they were supposed to be releasing a new version this week but havent come across it yet. If i come across it i will have a gander, but 'rose report' in google picks up everything atm. As its all about creativity I can guarantee it'll be in there somewhere.

found it will have a look.

Is that actually what you have done, however? From what you have described, you have not explored the different media tendancies but the influence of a teaching method on which media is used.

Remember this will sit on your CV for 10-20 years and headteachers will want to know what your dissertation was on so that they can produce their own questions on what you reviewed. Of course it won't matter if your CV states one of the above and then you have a short description.

it is in terms of the tendancies children have towards different media, and whether I can influence those tendancies.

See it's a tricky one, thats why im struggling for a title!

I think "influence" is the most important word, as that is what you have done and what primary teaching is all about. If I read "Exploring The Different Media Tendencies Of Children" I would have no idea that you were investigating how it can be influenced, I would assume you had just reviewed the tendancies.

hmm, but my research wasnt really informative for the kids, it was for me though lol

Seriously, you could go down the route of "Influence of Cognitive Thought on Children's Behaviour on Preference for Artistic Approach" but I still think a much better title is simple.
#17
the informative refers to the first 7 years or so of the information handed to them by other parties who influence their life, sometimes known as the "informative years".
They are believed to be the most important to a child and helps to develop their moral compass and values. hence, if they are given a pencil to draw in they will always go for a pencil until they are "informed" otherwise hence the influencing
Just a thought
