Personally I prefer to but many other people do it different ways. I think Natwest has an account that doesn't charge for international withdrawals or something like that... some people take travellers cheques.

See what other members advise too x x

im off to cyprus on sunday, i am taking bout 200 euros max and ive got a debit card from the nationwide that i will use to take money out a machine whn i dont need it

perfect solution, not too much cash on me can take money out when i need it (no charges with nationwide) no chance of it being cloned cos im using an ATM

you can always use the hotel safe to store cash if u need  but if u have a nationwide card use it at ATM's abroad

i change some cash then take my atm card
but just a warning a few years ago while in spain i used my card in hole in wall but machine didnt give me money even though it said it had i then had to ring bank to explain they said it would be ok but it was not put back into my bank till two weeks later i was at home by this time lucky i was with family that helped me out with money but i still use my card but just take more money with me

We take cash and carry half each. I'm guessing if it's your spending money then it won't be huge amounts that you'll be needing. If it's a lot, we split it up between us and the various bags and cases. We've never had a theft or anything worriesome:-D I don't know if you're more likely to be cloned or subjected to fraud in Turkey than here TBH, but we just find it easier to get the money we want delivered at home before we go. We usually need some foreign currency for such as taxis etc pretty much straight away.
What ever you do, have a lovely time.
Sun block!!:-D

Its better to use your credit card than your debit, because a bank doesn't have to refund any money fraudulently stolen by someone using your debit card information. With a credit card, you have a way to fight fraudulent charges... if the worst was to happen!

Nationwide are charging for card use outside Europe since JUne 1st.

Otherwise they are best option - no charges and good rate.

There are these new pre-paid travellers cards you can get for € and $ from various travel exchanges (the post office definitely do them) - you put so much money on and can use it at most places (I think they are on the Visa-system) or cash machines - no real worry of card cloning and probably better than just cash or even travellers cheques - I don't think you pay over the odds either...

Edit - just reread and your going to Turkey, so you'll pay a conversion fee each time if you do the above, still worth considered if you usually travel to eurozone though!

We went to Turkey last year , Side Mare and I took about £300 worth of Turkish Lira and £200 UK pounds cash[for backup]. No ,problems ,they take lira ,pounds or euro's . I would take currency and leave your credit card in your purse for backup .I still took a credit card , just in case ,but never used it . We were only there for 7 days .
