Leave it powered off. Turn it upside down so the keyboards facing down, leave it like that for tens minutes that way the majority of the coke will dribble out. Then put it in the airing cupboard of some where thats quite warm for 24 hours and fingers crossed you might get away with it

I managed to spill it over the ram on mine (still cant work out how as its underneath) I blotted it up with kitchen roll (after turning off of course) and I removed the ram stick and wiped the rest of the sticky mess with a alcohol wipe or three before cleaning the ram itself, left it half hour and re-assembled it and all is good now. Mine went into the display problem like you described too, if its beyond repair though does your house contents insurance cover it? Ours does with no excess too as its under the home entertainment & computers catergory that we pay around a fiver a year extra for so we have no excess on them, it also covers mp3 players, mobile phones and laptops etc out of the house for loss or theft with no adverse affect on the next years premium.

And the moral of the story is:-

never have drinks of any kind near a pc, especially alcoholic ones ;)

Hold on we are assuming the coke is the sticky brown liquid type, if its powdered just blow any thats left out and leave it the rest of the day to chill out and come back down to earth, it may be grouchy tomorrow doing cold turkey and have a bad comedown so pop a temazipam in the CD drive to help with the cold sweats etc. It will be ok though and recover ok, if its just the once rehab shouldnt be needed, just keep it away from Amy Winehouse and Pete Docherty in future. I toild you they was bad news.

Don't stress. My daughter "fed" some blackcurrant squash to my computer. It blew up. I then claimed on my household insurance ( no claims discount virtually non existent for household insurance). The engineer came within a few days and within a week.... a new faster, better computer. Job done

Customs Detects Drugs Hidden Within Laptop

(Monday, September 15, 2008) Wales – Customs officers arrested a female Monday for transporting narcotics from the Wrexham hidden in her laptop computer.

During secondary inspection officers noticed that the passenger was carrying a laptop that had been tampered with. The laptop was X-rayed and further examination disclosed substances hidden in the computer. Contents of of the sticky substance field-tested positive for Coke. A total of over 3 grams were seized with a street value of approximately 2p.

The passenger arrived on board a National Express Coach and is a citizen of Deganwy, North Wales....

Police say a major kingpin as now been removed from the streets and estimate that approximately 17 million people in the UK alone are victims of the sweetened carbonated drinks trade each year......

Maybe you could sue Coca-Cola, as according to their advert "Things go better with Coca-Cola things go better with Coke" !

Too late now but if it had been me I'd remove battery, switch off power adaptor but leave plugged in. Then press power switch to ensure I removed all traces of charge, before unplugging adaptor.
Then with hand sprayer filled with water, spray entire assembly several times to remove tracesof coke.
Find somewhere warm to place it (e.g. airing cupboard). Then leave for at least 24 hrs to make sure it's completely dry.
That way there shouldn't be any damage.
But guess it's probably too late now as something appears shorting, although still maybe worth trying as you don't have anything to lose.

My daughter spilled vodka & coke (mine not hers) over my keyboard and it never worked properly again, even though i dried it out straight away... kept doing random things like jumbling up letters and turning the PC off when you pressed 'O' or 'P'... Easier to replace than a whole laptop though...
Good Luck with yours Edjaned...

put a claim in on the insurance if it doesn't work properly coz doubt, when dried, it will be ok

No it can't

Errrm it can, maybe dissolve is too harsh but it can corrode metal which is a form of dissolving of the surface.

Have you not seen how good a toilet cleaner coke makes? It Really cleans them well, the same with old coins:thumbsup:

Coke is a very acidic drink even though it tastes sweet. I used it for cleaning some old brass fire accessories with and its better than any commercially available cleaner.
#35
So it sort of corrodes the surface a little. That doesn't mean it 'dissolves metal' :)

I've tried the toilet cleaner thing and it never seemed to work. The best hing i've used coke for, apart from drinking, is cleaning blackboards, gets rid of all of the old chalk marks, brings it up as new

its far worse now keyboard or mouse not working and screen looks far worse
