Just got a 120GB Elite HDD for my 360, wondering if its possible to somehow transfer all my data from my 20GB to the 120GB? I reckon this is impossible but I just want to make sure. I'm also hoping I can retrieve my gamertag and all that when I sign into Xbox Live.

you can retreive the gamertag no problem, but to transfer all your data you will need the transfer kit, but yeh it can most certainly be done.

Ahh, I've seen a few of these transfer kits being lent out over here. Its not much data really, as ttsese said below, I should be able to redownload all my music videos, arcade games and that.

Cheers, I think I'll try the re-downloading everything option first :)

I just got the cable - transfered my data over from my 20gb to my new 120gb the other day.

Wanna borrow mine Meadsy?

Just pay the postage to you and back to me :)

Took me about 5-7 working days to get mine from microsoft.

you need the cable to transfer your data - i.e. all your game saves etc.

You can't download that stuff.

thats why you need a memory card to transfer over otherwise you could have just recovered your tag

yeah - gamertag/profile is ok to download - but the saves/game progress you have under your gamertag stay on the hard drive. They'll just disappear if you don't manually transfer them.

Also even if you did have and used a memory unit - many of the 360 save files are rather large and would require loads of switchrounds of data.

Solution is to whack your 20Gb on your Elite for a few days, then transfer soon as you can using a proper transfer cable.

just move the gamertag and savegames to the memory card and move it again onto the new harddrive
#10
i think you might be confusing added content with savegames unless you talking about games like oblivion which took some megs but not massive amounts

OP never said he had a memory unit in this thread.

True as long as he has recently connected to xbox live his gamertag should be up to date to be recovered on the new harddrive but if he wanted the savegames migration kit or memory card is his only options arcade games and added content can be downloaded again so dont really need to brother with transferring them over
