We have to get our 1st mortgage in a few months & have to raise as much money as possible for a deposit.

Sorry if this sounds a bit calvinist, but it works.
Immediately-
Stop smoking
No take aways
No snacks, biccies or chocolate (OK chocolate in emergency - but ration it!)
Stop buying newspapers, magazines, CDs etc
Buy fresh veggies/meat from market stall or budget range from s/markets
Buy bigger packs of rice/pasta etc
Do batch cooking with veggies and freeze extra portions for later
Make soup every week - lots - and have it 2/3 times a week
Cut booze down to 1/2 evenings per week (or cut out completely if possible)
Walk or cycle when possible
Set a weekly budget and stick to it

Medium term

If shopping at supermarket, try to go at markdown time and buy bread, meat (Ginsters pasties :whistling:) etc at reduced prices and freeze that day
Check previous credit card/bank statements to spot your spending high spots and avoid them
Reduce spending on clothes - buy only necessities
Don't go on holiday (unless you get a last minute bargain - even then, think twice)
Put money saved into a cash ISA - higher interest tax free choose one that does not cost you interest

I know this sounds rough but it is only for a short time and you will be buying a house you will enjoy that.

Hope this helps
