Morning all!

I am need of some assistance please. I have just bought a new car and pick it up on Friday. It has a 3.5mm jack point for ipods/mp3 players built into the car - but am looking for a device/lead which converts it to become a standard usb port.

I dont have an mp3 player as yet, but have usb sticks which I used on my old car stereo to play music on!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

I don't think they exist!

The 3.5mm jack input is for devices with the ability to decode mp3's in to audio and is, essentally, an analogue input. A USB connection is digital and unless you have a fancy memory stick which also plays mp3's (in which case it would have a 3.5mm jack socket for headphones) it's not gunna work.

I suggest you find a cheap mp3 player. 2gb ones can be had for buttons and would be perfect for in the car.

They do, but I don't know exactly what they are called. I have a set of "ends" that fit onto an extendable USB cable. By using a combination of these you can achieve what the OP wants.

Go to eBay and search for "3.5 Jack to USB", these might do, if not ask at Maplin.

Chrishill has the idea. Small cheap mp3 player, and a 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm plug stereo lead to join the two together.

The other guy is showing you stereo 3.5mm to USB audio on EBAY, that are supposed to fit between the likes of my Skypephone (which has audio in the usb socket) and will no connect any usb sticks up to stereo.

USB sticks = Digital memory. 3.5mm socket = audio input.

wow wonder what the hell that cable does???? theres no converter or anythingon it its just a cable, so audio goes in off the 3.5 jack.....then what lol??? most useless cable ive ever seen, OP this will not work for what you want to do, you would need some sort of cable with a converter unit on it to convert digital from the usb stick into audio for the 3.5 input.

Nope.

Think of it like this. Your old headunit had a built in mp3 player, it converted the files on your USB stick in to music. Your new headunit doesn't have a built in mp3 player, but it has a socket so you can plug an external one in. You need something between your USB stick and the 3.5mm jack to convert the mp3 files in to music... in other words, you need an mp3 player.

No cable or FM transmitter will do the job you want, you need an mp3 player.

something like this would be fine, so long as it has a 3.5mm jack output for headphones.
