Copied the following from the first choice website - looks as though she will only lose the deposit.

To cancel the entire holiday, the Lead Name must write to our Administration Department by recorded delivery at the address on your booking confirmation. Cancellation takes effect on the date we receive your letter. If you cancel after we confirm your booking, you must compensate us for losses, as we incur costs from the moment you make the booking.
The closer your cancellation is to the departure date, the less likely we are to recover the costs by re-selling the holiday at the website price. Our cancellation charges therefore increase as the departure date approaches. If you have to cancel for a reason covered by your insurance policy, you should be able to recover your cancellation charges. The charges are listed in the table below. When only some members cancel in a group that has booked a holiday together, the charge will be based on the price of their holiday only.

Time before departure when cancellation instruction is received by us #Cancellation charge as a % of total holiday cost
(excluding any insurance premiums and any amendment fees already paid to us)
Up to 57 days Loss of deposit
56 - 29 days 50% or deposit if greater
28 - 22 days 70% or deposit if greater
21 - 15 days 80% or deposit if greater
14 - 4 days 90% or deposit if greater
3 days or less 100%

# Airlines sometimes apply cancellation charges. We will provide details of this after we receive your cancellation instruction.

may be easier to try to sell the holiday and pay admin fee to transfer names depending on what deposit was paid should state all this on T & C

hmm, do you know why she paid it all? Was it a requirement to get a discount or something?
#6
its quite an expensive holiday so I doubt she knows anyone that would buy it but thank you for responding, such nice helpful people on here
#7
not sure will have to check with her - thanks

you may not get the full amount back by selling to someone else but you may be better of than cancelling certainly a option worth looking into in, people are always selling them on ebay.

If the holiday is booked via a travel agent the cancellation has to go through the travel agent, if booked direct with First Choice then cancel direct with them.

Normally full payment is only required approx 10 weeks prior to departure, if she cancels now it will be loss of deposit.

If she has paid the full amount, she should have already got travel insurance, in which case should get all the money back bar any excess she has to pay

Yes, the big question is why does she have to cancel? Needs a valid reason to claim insurance.

My advice is to first phone First Choice and give a sad story. She might luck out and get a sympathetic operator. Anyway, it's worth a shot - just make sure that she doesn't confirm the cancellation unless this does happen. If it doesn't work, then it's on to Plan B. Plan B I will think of in the meantime. Good luck.

They have paid in full so do they keep the money, do you think she will have trouble getting it back, thanks for responding
