So heres the situation...

I moved out of a flat in August, had VM BB size M, Telephone M and TV XL with HD box and extra set top box - used to pay £40.50/mnth. When I left the flat and moved in to my parents temporarily VM made me pay for disconnection, and promised that they would refund these fees when I moved into the house I was waiting to complete on.

I'm getting the house next Friday, and called VM to see about getting re-connected. At first the girl said that we wouldn't get any refund of the disconnection fees as it's been over 29 days, then she backed down and said she would refund them. The only problem is if I want to continue to use them the line rental will go up to £46/mnth, and I wil loose the extra set top box unless I pay £5/mnth more (£51/mnth)

She said this is becuase they no longer do BB size M, but I remember getting a letter before I moved saying I would get the upgrade to 10MB (size L) for free, so don't see why they are now charging more, and I'm not bothered about loosing the extra box, just dont want to pay more than I used to (was hoping by loosing 1 box I'd actualy pay less!)

She says I need to speak to retentions, and they are going to call me, just wondering what should I say, and what deal I can resonably expect to get. I've already worked out we may be better off signing up as new customers (girlfriend has a different surname and never been a VM customer) but would loose any disconnection fee and have to give back the HD box we paid for 12 months ago, but would get £65 quidco, 2 months fee TV & BB and £20 account credit, plus hopefully the new HD box and a free wireless router.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks!

just tell them its not a new contract you want but a continuation of the one
you had at your previous address.

at least you are paying for your sevices, make sure they understand that
you are paying your bills.

You've done a good bit of research, just tell them what you want.

I am sure you wont have to give the HD box back they make you pay for it, its not rented???

Tell them Sky will be cheaper unless they go back and do what they said they would?

No, apparently the T&C's state that you have to give the equipment back, the fee you pay is to have access to the box, not to own it! Joke, I know! The only problem is that Sky cant give me a better deal - The telephone exchange in the area I am moving to doesn't allow me to have their free broadband, so It works out more expensive.

That is a PITA, On the adverts they say you get the service free if you have the XL TV. If you dont mind chancing your luck, when the retensions phone you, I would say Sky can give you it cheaper then Virgins new price, they dont need to know you cant get there BB. Then say you told me i could get the same deal as before so if you dont i will move to Sky, they are normally good at helping but if they WONT, and i do mean WONT not CANT, I would use your GFs name or yours as your a new customer again (as they made you pay the money to leave them), and get a new one from them, but depends if you want to try it and how much mor eit will be to get a new Vifgin contract would be compard to what they are offering you?
