Are you sure that the reason your laptop runs really slowly is a lack of memory? 2GB should be enough to run the OS and any applications you want. Perhaps there is an underlying problem such as a large amount of fragmentation or the registry congested with invalid entries?

Perhaps you should look to reinstall the operating system, im sure that will show a significant improvement in performance. Of course this isnt to everyones taste so try the RAM, but if it doesnt work i do suggest at least some sort of system cleanup.

Thanks for your advice. I've tried defragmenting the drive, using the clean-up tools, removing spyware, etc...
I dont mind upgrading the memory anyway as 4gb is the max the laptop can take but if all else fails i will try reinstalling the OS

np m8 :p but serious i think you have some unknown processes going in the background or like others said maybe trojan/virus, i have spybot, adaware and avg checking my pc, but let us know if 4 gig helps, at least you will be ok ram wise for next year or two.

oh glad i could help hehe

Ive ran my virus scan, and adaware and cant find a thing. Must be something wrong but i think im just going to reinstall the OS and see if that helps

remember if you do go upto 4gig that unless you use a 64bit O/S then you won't get the full 4gig. how much you'll get will depend on the size of your graphics cards memory. weird i know but ALL memory is counted towards the max usable level for the 32bit O/S

While there are applications that do need more than 2GB ram, you shouldn't needing more than that for normal use and if you are using more than 2GB ram currently with no big applications upgrading to 4GB is not going to sort the problem, just delay it occurring. How are you currently measuring your ram usage?
