What cable is it?

You may need to change your display configuration in your video card control panel. My one has options for multiple displays.

To be honest your never going to get a good picture on a portable tv imo. If your 42" is a HD one you will be best off getting a digital cable as S-video isnt going to look good.

:x gutted after purchasing one of those cables now i found out

thanks for your help

i thought it was the portable tv aswell, ill check how it looks on the large tv when i get a minute

can you recommend a digital cable?

I currently use a DVI HDMI converter thing from my laptop and then use a normal HDMI cable into my tv and it looks perfect.

word of warning
if the 42" is a plasma leaving still images like windows on for any length of time may cause it to burn into the screen, same with portable if it's a crt

I have two laptops with ATI and Nvidia graphics cards, on both the graphics control panel can be accessed by right-clicking on the desktop and there are links to Nvidia Contol Panel / ATI Catalst Control Centre.
