Help needed with Wii calibration on 50" TV

Can anyone offer any tips for getting the Wii pointer to function better on a 50" plasma? I have never really had the Wii working great on my setup and due to this have barely played it, figured I would get some lightgun games to breathe some life into the console as those are one of the strengths of the machine as I can't play them on anything else.

I am trying to play HOTD Overkill sitting on my sofa directly infront of the TV from a distance of about 3 meters and the game is completely unplayable in the way intended (using the hand cannons / aiming at the screen). Can only play it holding the Wiimote low down and using the on screen cursors which totally defeats the purpose of playing a light gun game. Have tried the sensor bar above and below the TV with the settings tried on both possible configurations in each position. It works best with the bar below the TV and the setting set to the same but this is still fairly awful, and the calibration is way off. Have tried the ingame calibration option too but this makes no real improvement.

Any ideas?

May not actually be of any help but, my wii works perfectly on a 100" w/s from 3 meters away, and I have the sensor bar on extension lead, with it sat on top of the screen.
So basically saying that your tv size and the distance you are from it shouldnt be too much of a problem ;), Although I am sure I read somewhere that 3 meters is the limit on wiimotes

Make sure its right way up, set option in console to say where it sits above below rtc, have no low light flckering light source next to it even candles and clean the sensor try on crt tv to rule out screen issue on 50"". How is wii> connected to TV .... component eg 3 colours rgb ? or just yellow RCA composite set TV according to connection 50/60hz and 16.9 etc.

Interesting, never occurred to me that there was a right way up for the sensor bar, will try flipping it over to see if that makes a difference along with giving it a wipe. No light sources next to it and I do not have any other TV I can try it on unfortunately. It's currently connected direct to the TV via component. All the settings on the Via are correct (widescreen / HDTV - 480p).

Tried all that and still no joy. Calibration is still way off.
