iv just got single trip insurance from aviva for £22, im going on a nile cruise on 30th june :)
(poss £15 back via quidco too)

You just need an ordinary Europe travel insurance. We did Direct Travel; their European covers Egypt.

BTW The cruise is going along the river - never out of sight of land - so it's not a special marine type thing.

Better safe!
Make sure you take every known remedy for all aspects of Nile tummy. On our boat about a quarter of us got ill over time - I fell ill in the airport on the way back, despite taking all possible precautions. On some boats especially one 5T one, according to a guy I was talking to, - absolutely everyone was ill. This was a couple of weeks ago.

chesso did you do all the excursions ? and do you need a ton of spending money if your all inc? i was thinking of taking £200 for trips and £200 to spend

i think there is only 1 thomsons 5T boat so what you said is quite surprising as i've only ever read good reviews of the jaz regency
i've been to egypt before (sharm) and had a dodgy tummy there, went to the pharmacy in town and got given some great tablets for it although i can't remember the name of them now.

are your trips not included? mine is full board with 10 excursions included in the price. just have to pay for drinks on board (which i've heard are amazingly expensive!!!)

Be prepared for very early starts. I went 3 years ago from Luxor - Aswan - Luxor, the latest we left on excursions was 7am, for Abel Simbel we left the boat around 4.30am!

no our trips are extra £160-£200 each to do them all
we booked all inc (inc drinks) for £468 each at the beginning of this month

wow! that's alot for the trips! i paid £590 for full board and all trips, just have to pay for drinks. i'm not planning on drinking any alcohol when i'm there because it's going to be too hot so hopefully the bar bill wont be too big!

We chose the cruise with the 10 excursions rather than the AI. The 10 trips come to about £200 I think. We did some extra trips as well - balloon flight @£75 pp, Nubian village @£19 pp and Philae Light & Sound @ £ 26 pp.
The tips is what you need to be aware of - a constant stream of tipping adds up, plus about £50 final tip to the boat staff and the egytologist, but £200 should be fine, as you are AI and every thing else is really cheap including pressies..
Get your visa and change your money at the airport in Luxor - 10% better than any English bank.

( For others not doing AI - The bar bill is a massive expense if you drink alcohol but we bought a couple of bottles of spirits in the duty free on the way over - in fact we had a bottle left so gave it to a couple who were going on to the Red Sea. So we had water at each meal and a total of 3 beers and it came to about £40. )

s'gonna be hot!!!! last time i went to egypt it was in august so i'm prepared  it's the temperature at night which is the shocker! i spent most of my time in the shade covered in factor 40 sun cream and still came back with a tan!
just make sure you have a hat and lots of high factor sunscreen :)

Yes it was baking when we were there - 40 degrees; people passing out on a regualr basis.

Luck of the draw I reckon. It was definite though; the couple I was talking to were really fed up and poorly! Yes, I've had those yellow disinfectant tabs on a previous trip!!

Oh another not good thing - the Thomson's plane was really cramped so be prepared to be uncomfortable. That was the only disappointing part of the holiday, other-wise we loved it.

it was about 5 years ago so have forgotten the name of them now, they were fab and the pharmacist was so helpful :) it's definately worth it for anyone who does have a dodgy tummy in egypt to seek out a local chemist

We are going in June, we decided on All Inc as we were told that WATER and TEA were expensive as well and we thought that we didnt want to NOT drink enough soft drinks because we were worried about working up an expensive bill, just to keep hydrated!
