Unplug the Sky Digibox from the plug, hold down the backup button, keep holding it down, plug the Sky Digibox back in, wait until the Sky Software Update screen appears on your TV, let go of the backup button.

If 10mins later it's still forked, then call Sky, just hope it's still under warranty.

well done that and the message has come so fingers crossed i havent had it for a year yet so i should be covered but i have alot of stuff recorded on there so i dont want to have to get a new box and they proberly wouldn come out to sort it for ages and i wouldn be able to survive without my skyplus now

mine would intermittently decide that it didn't want to come out of standby, is that the same as what yours is doing? if it is get on the phone to sky and tell them you want a new box, make sure you tell them you want it for free as well.

yeah it is just stuck on standby if i get a new box i will lose everything i have recorded on this box wont i?
#5
it has happened a few times before but within ten mins it used to turn back on but this time its been hours so not looking good is it
#6
mmm most of the boxes take a few minutes to come on if they've been switched off at the plug but a few hours isn't right!

I think someone has mentioned before that there are port/usb thingys that the engineer can connect to the new box and swap your stuff over, but I am not sure that they woudl be too keen, when ours stopped working a few months ago it was full and the guy told us if he couldnt fix it we would lose the lot! It may depend on the engineer. :)

It's given up the ghost..........Sky+ boxes are notorious for it.

You'll need to ring them and they'll get an engineer to come and replace it. It's a common problem and they won't even attempt a fix.
#9
exactly sy, wont bother fixing it they will just give new a new one, having a sky plus box that breaks every so often is a lot more annoying than losing your recorded stuff.

do you have a dvd recorder or anything you could use to backup your skybox (assuming of course it switches on)?

also when you phone up ask for a thomson (i think, please correct me if im wrong) box and not an amstrad one, there are loads of reports on the internet about the amstrad ones having problems with sound on recorded programs

Did you ask whether they will transfer the stuff for you?
#13
he said i have lost it all unless the box comes back on before they come out and then ill just have to try and transfer the main stuff to tape
#14
Looks like you are going to busy today then.
#15
if you're prepared to open the box up and remove the hard drive you can backup the contents of the drive to another drive by using copy+ software. you would then have to copy it back to the new machine after the engineer has left. i've used the software and it works perfectly

My Sky+ is stuck in standby, Help!
The hard drive has most likely gone. You will need to either replace the hard drive with a new one, or get Sky out
for a fee of £65. You can always try a full system reset to get the drive back, it sometimes helps:
Unplug box from the mains. Press and hold the two buttons either side of the select button, then plug back in while
holding the two buttons in, wait until the lights on the front of the box begin to spin backwards, then press the select button on the box, the record light will come on. The box will then perform the reset, and will go back into standby when finished. This procedure will wipe off all your recordings, but may just help to get your box working again.

proberly not as i dont think it is gonna come back on i would be over the moon if it did so i could transfer the crucial stuff

the guy on the phone never said anything about a charge for box or engineer i just presumed it would be free as i only joined them last dec so its only been 8 to 9 months can anyone confirm that it will be free as u should get a year garantee surley?? also if so then when they put in the new box should that also come with another year garentee???????
#19
Its def in guarantee for the first year, not sure what happens if you get a new box.
#20
make sure you get a new (not refurbished) box it should all be free and if it isnt argue, mine was out of warranty and i managed to get the callout and new box for free. a new box should come with a year long warranty
#21
excellent cheers guys, they have phoned me a couple of times since i joined and have tried to make me pay a monthly fee for a garentee as the box is now mine but i just told them that if anything did go wrong and i had to pay then i would just cancel my subscription and go to virgin as i already pay 45 pounds a month for sky so im sure they would rather send an engineer for free then lose that money each month

if they were going to charge you they would have asked for payment details over the phone.

Be very careful about these calls. They are unlikely to be from Sky and have nothing to do with Sky. See the reports on Watchdog etc. This insurance company is a rip-off.
#24
We had a similar call, I didnt know they were fake but was well cheesed off that they had got my nnumber so wasnt particularly nice to them they have never called back.:)
#25
Sky have notoriously let their client lists leak to companies like this offering pointless warranty services.
