Your problem could be one of many things, though, sadly. I don't know where to start.

Has the auxillary belt snapped?
#4
A car garage would be a very good start....

Talk to friends and family and see if anyone recomend a garage.

hi kate try tightning the fan belt if it aint broken or worn? if it just makes a loud sreaching sound then its just loose its an easy job but cant help ya coz im in essex soz lol

Ok so im guessing the aux belt has been slipping on the alternator so your battery hasn't been charging.

You could buy some stuff called belt dressing spray that prevents the belt from slipping by applying a clear tacky layer to the belt.

With regards to buying a new belt take a look at Euro Car Parts and perhaps look into changing the belt yourself, it really is a very easy job. If not, a local garage may fit the belt for £20 for you :)

Right, so the aux belt (the proper term for the fan belt) has snapped? If so, you should want to know the cause of it snapping really. If it's not just wear and tear then it might be something it is driving that has damaged it and therefore it will snap again regardless.

You can get a battery from any autofactors, fast fit garage, proper garage and even Halfords. You will need a new aux belt though as otherwise it won't charge and die again. Although your battery has discharged, it doesn't necessarily mean it has been ruined, it just wasn't charged.

thanks paul but if i tried fixing it the car would never work again lol

In films a pair of tights are an adequate solution to your problem.
#12
Can you tell yourself if the fan beive had a few saxos its a common problem and the belts are expensive in tearms of fan belts last time i bought one it was about £16 where the equivelent ford one is bout a fiver lol

if you can get somebody to fit them for youi both simple jobs then ring round the local motor factors to find the cheapest prices and there can be a HUGE difference- my OH has just had a new battery for his corsa diesel kwik fit wanted £80 and we picked one up for half of that in the end!! :)

Seconded.

Don't get a battery. Get the fan belt fixed, drive the car for 20 minutes and then switch off. go to it half an hour later and see if it starts.

thirded.

When you switch off it's best to be facing down a hill (for restarting purposes if the battery still fails on you.)

she shouldn't drive anywhere til the condition of the battery is known.

a mechanic should check the battery , or sit outside ya house occasionally revving the engine.
