right, this is probably easier from all people that are on here from the south east area :) im travelling up to nottingham next friday (driving) and i was just wondering which way would be the best way to go, im probably leaving at THE worst time of day but i couldn't help that because of college. Im leaving at about half 5 and i was thinking of going M3, M25, M1? is this a good idea or has anybody else got a good route (im coming from basingstoke)

Thanks people :) rep for help :)

I can indeed help as one of my best friends lives in Basingstoke and I live in Nottingham. This is the way I go. A339 onto the A34 towards Oxford then join the M40 at junction 9 and off at 10, A43 Northampton. This will take you to junction 15a of M1 and just go North on M1 until junction 25 for Nottingham city center.

will this way be quicker than the way i have said? i multimapped it and it said about 2 hours 50 minutes. I wont need to go as far as the city centre as im going to south clifton which is junction 24.

Yes it will be quicker especially on a Friday evening. My friend went the M3, M25, M1 way to Leeds and it took here 6 hours on a friday evening! The bit past Luton is just gridlock on a Friday evening.

Yes for Clifton you do indeed need junction 24, if you have a stab proof vest it may be useful too!:w00t:

Yes dont know the areas but it is somewhat ropey on the way down (traffic calming is always a big giveaway!) But the estate is quite nice, friendly families and young professionals.

cool may have to go that way, but would it be quicker to get to the A34 to go down the M3 leave at junction 8 and go through newbury or would that just be basically going back on myself??
