Hi,

My acer laptop battery is only lasting 50 mins, on mid/low screen brightness, and the laptop is only 4 months old.

I called acer and the monkey on the phone said that "50 minutes is within the acceptable lifespan for a used battery" so they wont do anything.

On the acer website it mentions 'up to 3hrs battery life'. I told him its 4 months old and giving 50 mins - he said its classed as used, so that doesnt apply!!!!!!! Of course, any battery is used as soon as its plugged in.

I got so pissed off i hung up.

Does anyone know where I stand with this? Im pretty sure im entitled to a replacement, but the idiot at Acer said they could only book it in as a chargeable repair.

Anyone had any similar problems with their laptop batteries, and how did it pan out?

I had a smiliar problem with my Dell laptop, battery wouldn't charge at all and had to be plugged in at all times. When I rung them up, I got it sent away and fixed no problem. Try phoning Acer again and just saying the battery won't charge at all? Naughty I know!

My battery sucks aswell on my Acer One. I contacted them and they wanted me to send my whole netbook back. Couldn't be bothered as I would of had to reinstall Linpus and take RAM out which is a mission. In the end I just bought a new battery from Amazon to save all the hassle.

have you looked into how much new ones are?

Consumer direct say that it is unreasonable for Acer to act as they have, and that such a drop in performance from that advertised is worthy of repair/replacement under the terms of the warranty.

However, under terms of law, I have a more firm standing persuing the problem with the retailer.

So, i called cdiscount, and to be fair was shocked (not been too impressed with them in the past) - the man i spoke to was friendly and helpful. He is going to speak to the buying manager for this product to see what they can do to rectify the problem.

Fingers crossed.

About £50 delivered, but with the laptop being only 4 months its irrelevent as if entitled to replacement, im certainly not buying one.

I have an acer laptop and have only ever got about an hour out of the battery. I always used it plugged in. I thought this was normal :x obviously a common problem with them.

It depends on the size and intended use of the laptop, a big, power hungry 17" can often only expect an hour or an hour and a half out of the battery, but a business class 14" would have a battery capable of four or five hours.

Mine is a standard 15.4", and when on battery its always on the "power saver" setting, which includes a mid-level screen brightness.

It seems from the other replies that acers are either really power inefficient, or they just ship cheap batteries with their laptops, which is more likely.

Even my old advent laptop, which originally gave up to 3 hrs, was running for over 2hrs when 18months old.............shame i broke it :-(

Yep - Dell give you a 1yr warranty on batteries shipped new with thier systems. Dell's warranty policies are great.
