In short my Outlook Express has corrupted losing me virtually all my Folders and Emails.
I don't know for sure but I think this was caused by the normal "compacting" process.

I have tried every obvious way of retrieving the files as they still appear to be on the computer. Owner/Local Settings/App.Data/Identities/xxxxxx/Microsoft/OutlookExpress.

I have also tried system restore with no success.

I have tried downloading various programmes that say they can restore O.E.6 but either can't understand them or they don't work.

O.E. 6 is still working normally as far as I can make out.

Does anyone have a simple dummies guide to getting these files back please.

Thanks for reading and in advance for any help. Please be gentle with the techy stuff, I'm old and ignorant :)

you may have a virus. go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and run teh virus scanner, it picks up things that nortona nd mcafee dont, you may have a virus in your registry.

you could also try and start in safe mode and run it see if that works.

hope this helps, good luck

Yeh thanks sheep, had thought of that and have run some stuff which is not picking up any virus but I will do a full scan tonight.

Appreciate your reply though :)

I killed my last computer (it had enough of me & died) & I ended up only being able to read the old PC hard drive as a portable drive in a rigged up contraption. I managed to retrieve my emails & import them into new PC with some difficulty as the O/S was knackered but I've deleted link showing how to do it so I'm no help either. Really hope you fnd them. Limit of my useless IT knowledge, good luck :friends:

>>

EDIT : have you tried installing it from mail backup folder ? >http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670. Scroll half way down to < How to restore Outlook Express items >.
Where's all those IT bods ;-)

Sounds like OE6 in mashed.

A quick fix may be to try dial a fix, just google it and download it.
Close OE6, run dial-a-filx.exe, select everything in the registation center, then click GO. Exit and then oepn OE6.

If that doesn't work, You may need to delete a specific file to get it functioning again, or use a simple recovery tool that can take a good few hours to run, if you gotta lotta mails.

Hope it helps :)
