Hi guys
Last weekend a few of us went out on the night, long story short a mates Iphone was found in my jacket the next morning, so in the afternoon I went over to his work place to hand it to him the next thing he tells me he reported it stolen!!!

Now he realises he must have put it there because I knew nothing about it till I got home and even went out of my way to get it back to him! and i certainly didnt put it there as I dont drink so I'd remember if i did.

anyway his response was "cool now I'll have two phones one from the insurance and my original"

now normally I could care less what he does but this involves me because the phone was in MY possession when he reported it in the morning, im not saying the FBi is going to come bursting through my doors with guns to arrest me but I am slightly worried

I did talk to him about this but he assures me nothing is going to happen somehow that still doesnt ease my mind.

The other one will be blocked by the provider anyway.

Err, yeah you are worrying over nothing, unless you haven't told us the full story..

But as previously mentioned, insurance companies take note of the IMEI number, and this will simply be blocked, although it may work in china, or some other countries.

blocked? you mean he wont be able to call off it? well im not bothered about that what I am uneasy about is getting mixed up in a scam like this

Yeah, they bar the phones unique IMEI number from the networks, it wont be able to connect to a carrier. Phones reported lost or stolen end up with the IMEI barred, even ones where you don't pay the bill..

What strikes me as odd here is that this person reported it as stolen?? after a night out? with mates? sounds odd to me, why not lost?? if its insured, stolen/lost is subject to the same excess and cover

you know ive only known him since june and he is a real tight **** infact I think he still owes me £40 from a few weeks back when I borrowed him money so he could fill up his van although to his credit he is a nice guy and has helped me out in emergecies with lifts and stuff.

heh as much as I hate him right now Im not gonna rat him out unless its murder I cant rat a friend out.

He's a nice guy, but automatically assumes his phone was stolen after a night out with mates

One word... "Wow"!

You went and handed him the phone.

You have no further part in the matter. If your mate decides to try to get another phone that is his business. If he put the phone in your jacket and you gave it back you hardly stole it and you have zero to do with his insurance claim.

What about rape, or child abuse?

Sorry just interested... lol

As for the phone. if anyone ever asks you, tell the truth, then you've done nothing wrong.

Actually your mate should be worried - as Squad 786 will track him down , This is a common with mobile phone insurance scams
Your matre should call back and say that the phone was found and he will have it unblocked ..end off....
