Bit confused - have you yourself reinstalled vista (using the supplied disc) and now it doesn't work - or did he install Vista?

Drivers should be available online from here:...

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/preinstalled/preinstalled.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-C&m=2517

was it a genuine version of vista? and did you sell it as so?

as for the drivers like you say they can be got of the internet, if he creates a fuss bout it dl them yourself copy to disk and post to him :)
#3
no the vista was genuine and came with the laptop when i first bought it.

do you know where he could download them from?
#4
doesnt the laptop have the coa sticker on the bottom?

as for drivers see jah128 post
#5
ive just recieved yet another email from him and he is saying hes downloaded the drivers and they havent made a difference????

yeah,i used that worked fine now hes saying there is a problem
#7
dont suppose you kept pics of the laptop showing the coa on it?

he really doesnt have much to go on if its genuine version complete with coa if he having issues with it tell him to contact microsoft
#8
its probable he's using a different version of vista than was supplied with the laptop ie trying to install a premium disk on a machines licenced for basic etc
#9
no i havent got a it

but i dont know why it is not working now when it was when i re-installed it

unless hes done it again

He might have to actually do that - sounds like something has gone wrong. Its normally fine if its a restore disk but it sounds like in this case he/you will need to call Microsoft and explain - they should be able to sort it over the phone. :)

edit - or as maddog says the buyer might have tried to install a different version of the os and use the oem key, which wouldn't work...

ok

well i gave him that link, this was is reply email:

to reinstall a sony vaio computer you have to use the vaio recovery discs they restore the computer to how it was bought, using the vista disc wipes everything off and only puts vista on but non of the sony software that it came from the factory with the vist a disc doesnt have software for thing slike the video card blutooth norton anti virus etc thats proberly why nealy everything is missing
#12
not sure how it works with sony but for my acer laptop to reinstall windows i have to use the backup disk which also installs everything else, did you have a seperate copy of windows?

also does it not have a seperate partition with backup files and the option to burn a recovery disk?

as for the utilities he mentioned video card bluetooth etc can be got from that link, norton antivirus would most likely have only been a 30 day free trial anyways not a full version.

how did you sell it in the ebay description as having any additional software on it?
#13
tell him to go here http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&m=2517

has all the utility drivers.. also see a data recovery file in the list maybe thats the install he needs to burn a recovery disk?

also see this http://kb.sony-europe.com/KB/Solutions/EN/V00000_V00499/V00185.html

note the important info on page...

looks to me like he got a good deal.. you did mention it came with everything you brought it with.... did the laptop come with backup disks or a option to burn your own recovery disks? cause if the option is part of the laptop technically you havent provided it with less as long as he still has access to the recovery software
#17
no ive never (and dont know exactly how) made a recovery discs before.

But i dont understand exactly what he hssnt got use of, the vista works except it keeps saying it will expire and hes installed his drivers.

technically yes and paypal are assholes they will dispute anything and always decide in favour of the buyer, but he would have to return it to you at his own cost, and you can always fight it but letting paypal know he has all the links to get everything he needs
#23
right, cheers

In your first post it says; "re-installed vista worked fine" - who re-installed Vista, you or the buyer?
#25
email:

vista will only work for 21 days then will stop working all this is because the vaio recovery discs were not used

email 2:

sony laptops dont come with any you needed to create your own discs using vaio restore tool when it was bought, using the vaio discs is the only possible way to restore the computer back to factory settings, using the vista discs wipes all the sony software off for ever as you didnt make any discs and have used the vista disc to restore it its now not possible to restore the computer correctly thatw why most of the software is missing and cannot be downloaded from the sony website

i did
#27
What Vista disc did you use if you didn't get one with the laptop?
#28
didn't get??

i used the one that was in the box in its vista case
#29
Right. Did you certify it with Microsoft? When you re-install you often are asked to call Microsoft to confirm you are re-installing blah blah, so they make sure your not using it on more than one computer. This has to be done before it is classed as Genuine.

check back a few posts on the recovery site there is a link to email sony if a recovery disk wasnt made..... also thats not true you can quite happily download the apps that would have been on it originally thats the whole point of the recovery website....
#31
no i didn't

what confirmation is needed?

so what exactly are you asking?, so far the answers appear there of course you could always ask for someone with same laptop to burn you a copy of the restore disks
#33
this is what the buyer is telling me

i dont know WHat hes asking!

You have 30 days after installing Windows to activate it online or by telephone. If this 30-day period expires before you complete activation, some Windows features will stop working until you activate your copy of Windows.

How do I activate Windows?

You can activate either online or by phone. To activate online you need an Internet connection. Activating by phone requires interacting with an automated phone system.

To activate Windows on this computer, do the following:

Open Windows Activation by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Computer, clicking Properties, and then clicking Click here to activate Windows now.* Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

You can then select the method you want to use to activate.
NoteIf you chose to automatically activate Windows online when you set up your computer, automatic activation begins trying to activate your copy of Windows three days after you log on for the first time.

Send this quote to him via email!
#35
just what i need, thankyou
#36
his reply email to that quote:

i have tried activating it online but it states the key code does not match the installed version of windows vista
#37
Tell him to phone instead.
#38
cheers, have done

lets see what excuse i get next....
#39
He has the copy of Vista you used with the laptop correct?
#40
so i have to waste time and money phoning them to sort out a problem not caused by me seems unfair to me

is what ive just received
