Hi ya, I need some advice. Back in feb of this year we had some work done. The builder that did it for us isn't a rgistered builder as it's just a second job/ income that he does on the side. He used to be a builder but no longer. He gave us a quote. On this quote it said skip hire. We had a few blows with the builder about some of his shoddy work. We had 200 quid to owe him then one day he called us and said he'd done his back in. As there were jobs still to be done my hubby said well we can't hang about we'll get them done. A day after builder phones up says what about 200 quid you owe, we said, there are jobs that aren't finished so that will cover them. He took it funny, had a go but then said vcall it quits. Anyways, the skip is still here. We called the skip company, they reckon the the skip hasn't been paid for (even tho their policy is pay on delivery) apparently our builder is friends with somebody at this skip company, but they reckon they can't get hold of builder. Surely this isn't our problem now... we didn't order skip, builder did. I have phoned several times now and they keep saying yeah we'll pick it up, I say, today? They say yeah yeah. Where do I satnd and without having to pay them can I report it and get it moved? Thanks in adavnce

"vcall it quits"

Is he german?

If your name isn't on the invoice and you didn't agree to have it, it's not your problem. Call the council and tell them you want it moved.

You need a license if the skip is on a public road...if that is the case ring the council!

If not, then if their policy is payment on delivery then tell them their own policies dictate...thus it needs to be moved.

Haha german!! Sorry, typing error, bloody phone lol. Can I call the council even if it's on our drive? I didn't receive an invoice. It's not in our way but obviousley is an eyesore but surely they are losing out, it's 70 quid to hire it.

This had crossed my mind but do they chip skips or something so that they would know who they are if police got involved?

If the hire of skip is through the builder and not through you directly (i.e. not your name on the invoice) the contract is between the builder and the skip company and therefore you shouldn't be liable.

That said, if the skip company can't get hold of the builder, they'll want someone to pay, and the most likely person for them to try and get it out of is you, so don't be surprised if they try it on....

But if the contract is between the builder and the skip hire company and they cannot contact the builder that is their problem not yours...they should take the skip and then invoice the builder for the cost if not already paid and then if he doesnt pay it they should escalate it with him.

if you put a big chain on it, someone would of nicked the skip by morning

Does the skip have anything in it, while its their skip any rubbish in it is yours so they might dump it on driveway, could be worth doing some sort of deal with them to save any hassle

I did think that if it turned nasty they could empty the skip on the drive, but somebody who I know works for a recycling waste company and said if they did start to empty the skip take photos or record them as they can get done for doing that. Have also been told by somebody who works for an asbestos company if I wanted to be a cow, to put asbestos in the skip then phone the council, they will then get it moved and fine the company.

Haha, lmao.

I would imagine the skip company would want their skip back at some point, as it isnt earning any money sat nr your house. Stop phoning and ignore it, they will come and collect.
