I've got a ps3, had it for a while and it's worked fine. I had it linked up to a HD tv using a HDMI.
Today I took it round to a friends house and I've linked it up to his CRT tv. No matter what we try we can't get a picture or anything to appear on the screen. No sound either!!

Any help appreciated!!

put your finger on the on button DO NOT LET GO hold it until the ps3 turns off again and you hear several beeps.

it's because the display is still set to VIEW THROUGH HDMI not composite.

You need to plug it back in your tv then adjust the screen and audio settings for the different output ports like this:

1. Go to Settings icon (Settings) in the XMB™ home menu.

2. Go to the [Display Settings] icon, then press the X button icon button.

3. Highlight [Video Output Settings], then press the X button icon button.

4. Select [Component / D-Terminal] as the connector type on your display, then press the X button icon button.

5. You will be informed that the console will test the settings for 30 seconds. Press the X button icon button to "Change" the display of the system.
Note: If your TV has multiple "Input" or "Video" channels, (i.e., "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", etc.), you may need to toggle through each "Input" channel on your TV to find the correct one that will display the component cable picture during the 30 seconds, especially if you do not see a picture.
The system will remain in the selected connector type for 30 seconds.

6. If your display supports the Component AV Cables, you will see a screen that asks to accept the setting. Highlight YES and press the X button icon button.

7. You will be asked to select all resolutions that are supported by your TV (480p/720p/1080i/1080p). Choose all that apply (press the X button icon button next to each selection), and when you are done, press the [Right Arrow] on your controller.

8. Select the aspect ratio of your TV (between 16:9 and 4:3) on the next step, then press the X button icon button to continue.

9. The PLAYSTATION 3 will list the settings you have selected. Press the X button icon button to confirm and save these settings.

10. At this point the PLAYSTATION 3 will prompt whether you wish to "Set Audio Output Settings". (See next section.)

Manually Change the Audio Output Settings Back to top

If you do not hear any audio, you should confirm the correct Audio Output Setting is selected for your installation. The PLAYSTATION 3 allows you to configure the audio output separately.

To choose the Audio Output Setting:

1. Go to Settings icon (Settings) in the XMB™ home menu.

2. Go to Sound Settings icon (Sound Settings), then press the X button icon button.

3. Navigate to [Audio Output Settings] and press the X button icon button.

4. You will be prompted to choose from:
* Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI
* Digital Out (optical)
* HDMI
5. Highlight the output port of your setup (i.e., Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI) and press the X button icon button.
Note: If you are using a Composite / S VIDEO / Component / SCART / AV MULTI for video, but using a different source for audio, (i.e., digital out cable to a stereo receiver), make sure you select the correct audio output setting (i.e., "Digital Out (optical)") to receive sound.

6. The audio output of the PLAYSTATION 3 will now output sound from the port you have selected.

It's because it's set to output a HD signal so won't show on his SD telly. It's not broken..........but i can't remember how to reset it.

If you hold teh power button down for a while, it beeps several times and resets itself (If i remember correctly)

It'll reset your display settings, as the problem may be that the CRT can't display the settings the PS3 was set for for teh HDTV.

* Make sure the system is off.
* Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
* That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.
