Right guys and girls I need your help.

I have bought a PSP Slim for my son for Christmas which just has the mains adapter and battery with it and very basic instructions.

I need to know what else I will need bearing in mind my son is seven and will mainly be using it for playing games but I do want to put some kids films and his music on it - will I need a memory card?

I intend to buy an accessory pack like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logic3-Starter-Pack-PSP/dp/B00004Y28T/ref=pd_sim_dbs_vg_h__shvl_title_3/026-3747192-3956412?ie=UTF8&qid=1193827431&sr=8-5 with a case, usb lead and most important from my point of view - headphones :giggle:

Will he be able to use the PSP in the case or is that just for storage purposes only.

I would appreaciate any help - in straighforward terms considering it took me ten minutes to turn the thing on last night :w00t:

Sillicone case is a good idea to protect it as cases are almost exclusively for storage only, and yes you will need a memory card (a "pro duo" card) - you'll load music and films onto it, so go for a good size if you can.
1 gig should set you back £12, a 2 gig about £18, or a 4 for £30 ish - gaming versions are faster, but not 100% necessary for use.

in poundland they had logic3 leather cases and logic 3 movie stand and you can get a 4gb card off here for £30.

4 gig off play might be better due to quidco, and 5% varsity card discount.

If you are going to put some films on to watch (rather than buy the original UMDs) you may need some software to convert the films from DVD to a format more suitable for the PSP.

To do this I have used PSP Video 9 (http://www.pspvideo9.com/):

PSP Video 9 is a free PSP video conversion and management application. It can convert regular PC video files (avi, mpeg, etc) into PSP video files, as well as manage/copy these PSP video files between your PC and PSP.

Thanks erics - didn't know that

I prefer 3gp Convertor for my movies. I seemed to get an aweful lot of sync issues with PSP Video 9. Although I admit PSP Video 9 is much more user friendly

4GB Memory stick is now down to £27.99 at play.com :)
Cheap games can be found in your local game and gamestation (or on here and ebay).
It is also possible to have something called custom firmware installed on your PSP, this will let you "borrow" games from certain places and play them via the memory stick :)
hth,

Mike..
