element gone in the tank? we are all electric too-if it stores up overnight dont think the kids could have "knocked anything" which would cause hot water to go cold.

likewise cant be frozen pipes cos the water just wouldnt run at all-are you sure the water came on overnight-the timer switch could have been turned to off? my kids do that all the time.

Hmm possible, you need to check up the loft to make sure there is not some sort of leak in the system. Where you hot water tank is, if i can remember rightly there is 2 switches for the hot water. I could never work it when I had economy 7, but I think these need to be switched on. You shoud have an emersion heater anyway for your bath.

in the airing cupboard is a big water tank, theres 2 switches in there both are on
not sure what each switch does either!

god this system is so ruddy confusing :(

I would think this has to be it, one of the switches is for the night meter and the other is the standard one that should always be available

On your water tank Timer there's usually an overide Boost button which let you turn your tank on for a couple of hours.......turn it ON ...you should hear the tank begin to boil after 15 mins or so....

One will be for the normal heater for the boiler, the other will be the immersion heater

Are you sure there's no Timer ?

#18
Do you have power lights on the switches?

also check to see if either Switch is 'Fused' .....it may look like this :

........if it does then the Fuse may have blown in the switch itself (which is inside the little panel with the screw at the bottom)

.....(Please DON'T check this fuse without turning off ALL power in the house 1st at the fuse box......unless you really know what you are doing.....)

may help to pop pics on of switches, as said it sounds like a fuse may have gone or the element has gone, im assuming you have heating?
#22
If the immersions knackered it will blow a fuse, could well be the thermostat inside the immersion housing.
Very easy to change for a couple of quid.
#23
Do any of the switches have little lights on them?
#24
IIRC you're a council tenant - give your housing repairs team a call.
#25
if the pipes at the top of your cylinder are cold, then your immersion heater elements or your thermostats have died, they need replacing.
#26
just to end this thread its the element thats gone and will hopefully be back up and running at some point today! thanks all for your help :)
