Help; solid placemats? Immersible?

  I've been looking for some in navy and am really struggling to find some at a reasonable price. I'm happy with cork backed ones so long as they are good quality but need 10 - 12 place settings and am not willing to pay £25 for a set of 6 so £50 for the 12 we need.

  do they have to be solid or can they be the cloth ones and just chuck them into the washer

  Sorry, yes. Melanine ones, they are suppose to be bomb-proof and last for years and years but are really expensive.

  No, but you just need to wipe them over with a cloth and a spray of cleaner and they are left clean.

  Yeah, totally agree, the cloth ones have to be washed after every single meal! I can't be bothered with that, I just want the wipe clean ones but you need to look at reviews first, the John Lewis ones I quite liked had rubbish reviews but the M&S ones which were nice had fab reviews but only came in cream and black I think, not navy.

  Sorry, it's melamine not melamine.
  The M&S ones are now not online but I did see they had granite ones http://www.marksandspencer.com/Marks-and-Spencer-Granite-Placemats/dp/B005419PH4?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_12&nodeId=42966030&sr=1-12&qid=1335222007 they might be good as you wanted black?
  I'll see if I can find the melamine ones I was looking at.

  Just be aware that rattan is a kind of woven natural materian so if little bits of wet food drop on the placemats then it's difficult to get rid of the marks - if gravy for example spills it can stain them from the gravy browning. They are certainly not wipe-clean.

  the best thing i had when the kids was young was a glass table, everything wiped off it including pen, paint and glue, cant you use the glass worktop savers i have seen smaller sizes somewhere
