Before the start of this football season Leeds united were robbed of fifteen points by the football league. This was an illegal move and could injure a club that is at the heart of yorkshire sport with supporters up and down the country. Please go to this link and add your name to the petition to get the points back.

Ok from what i remember, they went into administration. This had to result in a 15 point deduction. Bournemouth had to do the same recently.

True, but its a silly ruling. I know the logic behind the rule - but why kick a dog when its down? Clubs need support not punishment when things have gone pear shaped.

Bates placed Leeds in administration last May and after being handed an initial automatic 10-point deduction, the club were then hit by a further five point penalty for failing to adhere to the League's insolvency rules.

So reading that tells me they deserve what they get as they are to stupid to adere to the rules

yes so reallly they done the club twice - they should have done bates as an individual businessman

As much as I have sympathy for the fans, why shouldn't the club be punished by the league?

From what I understand Bates tried to cheat the insolvency rules by going into administration half way through the final game of the season, when they knew they were going to be relegated, and therefore the points deduction wouldn't matter. What he didn't expect was it to happen for the new season.

But hey, Leeds didn't have to pay any bills, like the Red Cross for example, who obviously don't need the money.

Leeds got the additional 15 points for the way they came out of administration not for going into it. They broke the leagues rules on how footballing creditors etc were to be treated and effectively came out debt free. This has given them an advantage compared to other clubs that have been in administartion. ie Ipswich still had debts of £30 million after they came out of administration and have had severe financial restrictions because of this. Only recently did this improve as they were bough out and the debts paid off, if not they would have had to sell more players to survive. If leeds had been throught he administration process correctly they would have not had the 15 points removed but then again would probably have a much weaker team now. Just luck how administartion as affected Luton. The league could not let this go as it would be a green light for others to do the same.

Leeds fight set for arbitration

Leeds United's battle to have their 15-point penalty overturned could rest with an arbitration panel.

The Football League made the offer to Leeds on Tuesday, the same day as their deadline to respond to United's High Court writ.

United chairman Ken Bates told BBC Radio Leeds: "We now need to consult with our QC.

"We want this in open tribunal. We want the public and press to be able to hear the evidence from both sides."

Leeds were docked points for breaching the Football League's rules on insolvency.

The club served a writ against the League in response and hope to have a decision before the end of the season on 3 May. .....................

Taken from the bbc 606 forum.

Leeds UTD went into admin 2 games before the end of the season.

We dont decide the timing, we got put in admin when it was needed.

Bates agreed a fee for paying back all the creditors.

The taxman challenged this on the last day of the deadline, which means we couldnt get a CVA required for coming out of admin.

So the FL sat Bates down and said: If you want to play next season, you MUST take a 15 point deduction, otherwise you are not starting. Which means the end of Leeds united.

And in this 15 point thing, the FL also wrote in it we are not allowed to appeal.

the way the FL handled it is diabolical to be honest. Since when has a club not been able to appeal? Surely the FL knew what they did was harsh so did this to protect themselves?

Blackmailed Bates by telling us we are not starting next season unless we take this massive punishment, and tried to protect themselves from been taken to court.

And also for the cheek of it, asked all our RIVAL clubs IF we should take a 15 point deduction. IS THAT FAIR?!

Think about it now, say its the premiership. A team like Everton challenging for a hotly contested place in europe contested in the PL by at least half the teams.

If you were in charge of one of the rival clubs of Everton (say Portsmouth) you would not care if the punishment is fair or not, you have a chance there to basicly get rid of one of the competiton you have, without their being any cost/punishment etc....

WOULD YOU TAKE IT AND GIVE THE TEAM THE 15 POINT DEDUCTION?

I know i certainly would have done.

Unfair punishment.
Unfair jury
Unfair that we can't appeal.

Lol, Leeds used a loophole so they didnt have to get deducted 10 points this season. their 15 point deduction was light.
I refuse to give them my support.

Leeds broke the rules and got punished for it. To say
stora
"We dont decide the timing, we got put in admin when it was needed."

is a load of rubbish. They went into adminstration when they did because they were already relegated and so the 10 points deduction would not matter.

I do not feel sorry for Leeds or that idiot Bates at all. They got what they deserved.
