i know how to fix this.

Verrrrrry simples.

1) put the sim card you wanna use in your phone now
2) restore with 3.0.1 update
3) dont restore backup yet - run redsnow
4) install ultrasnow via wifi n cydia
5) signal will work on reboot.
6) restore your backup.

fair point. My fault. Put official sim in, restore, let it complete, but take sim card out immediately after it finishes (it shouldnt hurt if you take it out during either), then put sim to be used in, youll get no signal obviously, then to the rest of the points i put above.

i have a better idea. but sim card in, connect phone. let itunes come up with the usual error.

Hold down the HOME + Power buttons together (while the phone is on and connected) for exactly 10 seconds (while the screen is blank). after 10 seconds, release the power button, but hold the home button down until windows redetects your phone as summut like apple mobile device. the screen will remain black, but itunes will pop up and say it needs to be restored.

now you can restore.

(because you had your voda (or whatever) sim in when you did this, itll not try and activate, so you can go and redsn0w and ultrasn0w it, followed by restore.

no he wont - not with my method :) also a normal o2 sim card would still work, doesnt have to be iphone sim.

you dont need either - just follow the vibeone method for world iphone-related domination.
