Help to claim back medical fees

My brother recently moved to Dublin and had an accident last week. He was charged over 300 euros just to look at his foot in the hospital but didn't receive any treatment. Does anyone know if there is a way to claim this money back? Thanks

Does he have medical insurance? If not then he won't get it back

I don't think he has insurance. I thought there may be a way to use an E111 in retrospect or something. He was playing football for his work team which was in some tournament. Maybe he could claim thorugh his work?

If his work team were playing in a properly set up tournament I guess his work should have made sure they were insured. Best to check with them.

I think its the same for all E U countries, if you are resident then you have to have insurance, if you are on holiday then you show the E111(its the card thingy).

Not sure if you can claim back but, he should have thought about healthcare treatment before he left the UK!

It's sometimes easy to forget when you live in Northern Ireland and are only crossing the border

Sorry I didnt mean to sound rude but, simply stating the obvious.

Found this as well which may be of help.

Some European health systems expect you to pay your bill upfront and then claim a refund using your EHIC. You should always try to apply for your refund before you return home. See the information for the country you are visiting for details of how to do this. Should you need to make a claim once you return to the UK call 0191 218 1999 (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm)

It might be worth your brother applying for his EHIC now as he will need that to make any claim I think.

If he doesnt have an EHIC already then he cannot do a backdated claim as there will be a start date recorded.
