help transferring files

Could someone please tell me the easiest way to transfer folders from a pc to a new laptop. I cannot use DVDs as the pc has no burner. Also the size of the total folders is quite considerable. Is there a way of connecting them through the modems with a simple RJ11 cable. Thanks in advance

why dont you just use an extrenal USB HDD?

but if you want to connect the machines, then you will either need an Xover cable or a hub/router

but the easiest way in my eyEs is to use an external USB HDD

A Male to Male parallel cable and a freeware copy of Laplink ?

Windoze may even have the ability to setup a para/para link itself, I cant remember.

Using HDD-based MP3 player, such as an iPod?

miniman - How big is the old HDD? You can buy HDD caddys from Ebay for about £8 for 2.5" or 3.5" disks.

This way you could turn the old disk into a large capacity removable device and save you copying the data to the laptop.

All of the above options from Kommunist, g8ina and FonZe would work too - just depends on which one suits you best :)
