I'd recommend Mr Site, easy to use, looks good, free domain name £15 from amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mr-Site-PC-Mac/dp/B000I59YJU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1219663266&sr=8-1

www.yourhtmlsource.com some good tutorial's for beginners, should only take you a few hours to get the basics learnt.

Once you have done that then have a look on www.oswd.org and get yourself a free template, which you should then be able to edit to your needs using your newly learnt HTML skills

http://www.joomla.org/

Does exactly what it says on the tin ;)

Domain names are not free - and be very careful of any service offering you one for 'free' as in reality they will own the domain - a real problem if you want to switch hosts or if the site becomes successful.

A .com domain will cost around £10 per year, a .co.uk a lot less than that for 2 years, so the domains themselves are not very expensive, but hosting a website (where the data is stored/read from) can be quite expensive depending on the levels of service and bandwidth you require. E-commerce facilities will also cost extra money if you need them..

Not necassarily true. I got a free .eu domain from Microsoft - registered in my name! But yes, in general, what you say is true.

co.uk will be approx £6 for 2 years. I use 123-reg.co.uk for most of mine. Depends on its usage. If its intended for the UK market, then a co.uk would be the best to go for. If its a worldwide audience, then a .com would be better. This is purely for search engine usage - either is fine for any purpose.

not bad, canny layout, and good use of colours! (unless your really a boy!) :p

tbh I use 1and1.co.uk, and their service is exceptional.. £6 for a ".co.uk" domain, which isnt bad at all

For the two of you will need help, check ya PM's and I'll see if I cant give you some webspace for free (well, for a little rep of course) :whistling:

I may be able to help you with design the site depending on your needs. Doing it as a hobby/to try and get to know more stuff about this, but www.gentlehands.co.uk is one Im working on at the moment.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned http://www.w3schools.com/, some great tutorials on there. I'll also second http://www.oswd.org/, some good designs on there, and http://www.joomla.org/, which is an excellent Content Management System if code scares you.

Cool, though the reason you would use a form wasn't to make it look nice - but to make sure your email box isnt full of spam mail on account of it being harvested on a website. Your choice though.

Sorry, i'm gonna get my act together, today.

I promise

Transferring from who to who? As in which registrar? They mostly all have their own procedure for doing it. If you mean you actually dont want to hand the domain ownership over to your friend, then you can simply change the nameservers so the domain name now points to your friends hosting, but you retain ownership and control.

Depending on the website your hoping to setup there are lots of free web engines out there, that you download, then put on to your hosting, then you can customise it to your liking. Saves a lot of work sometimes.

ok if ya on 1&1, sign into your account, click domains, find the one ya mean & should be a configure button  you need to change the nameservers from ...... to ///////// what ever his is. You would need to find out the domain servers for his site
