Hiya,

hoping someone can help please. repp will be given.

I usually used my thumbdrive at work, but since a last software update on the machines. the driver for this has been disabled.. Im wondering if anyone knows how to re-activate this?...

I checked in system, and the information for the USB MASS STORGAE says:

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

But in device usage it says "Use this device (enable)"....??

I reckon i need to change something using regedit but dunno what..
any ideas?

If you are using it at work then I would guess the IT dept has disabled the device via Group Policy. This helps prevent the spread of viruses via USB keys. Have you asked you IT dept?

Click where it says - 'Use this device (Enable)'.

Choose to 'Enable (use this device)'.

its already on enable...

figured it out anyway..

Run regedit and navigate to HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\USBstor

change the value to a 3 to enable, and 4 to disable under "START"....

- dam IT and their meddling ways... lol....

I agree to either prevent spread of viri or to prevent data theft:thumbsup:

Just be careful, if its been disabled intentionally there will be a reason, tampering may be used as a grounds for dismissal.

Just don't let IT catch you with the USB stick in then - We can be a cruel bunch when we want to be.

not much of an IT dept if they've not disabled regedit!

Very true. By the looks of things, everyone has admin rights - Definitely not a good idea. Then again, the machines might not be networked.
