hi
Its not the router as have tried without the router so got be modem
pfff why do bods sell them on ebay if cant use them i sure its the modem and would like quick fix so can play my game ovber weekend
no, as the modem is most likely stolen.
you used to be able to hack them to get free broadband, but thats all but stopped now, hense being able to pick them up for a fiver now.
all virgin media modems are rented, only the router is yours to keep.
selling them is against the law, plus they won't work as VM won't sync them
I moved out of a cable area around 2 years ago, but then modem cloning was easily done. I could clone my little blue modem and use a Motorola SurfBoard instead (I wasn't too keen on those little blue things they sent out). It was just a case of copying a few settings from the blue modem. Not sure if this can still be done, but I don't see why not.
as it would come under receiving stolen goods.

it can't be done now (well not easily) as they have enabled bpi, extra security checks for macs appearing more than once and a fair bit of other security.
not all virgin modems sold are stolen though.
if its still current, they probs will retrieve it

er...technically they are.
they're never the property of the customer, therefore selling them is against the law.
just cos they dont request it back, doesnt mean you can sell it, cos unless modded, it won't be synced by VM at their end.
in the early days, Telewest did allow you to use your own choice of modem, but that stopped quickly, as some people chose to use ones with USB connections instead of the supplied LAN card and a modem.
since just about every new PC and laptop now comes with LAN onboard as standard, they've phased out using ones with just a USB connection or allowing customers to use their own purchased one.
they won't work unless modded, so theres no point in selling them, its just encouraging piracy
