last august i purchased a 19" lcd tv (prestigio branded) with built in pvr, freeview etc for my bedroom. it cost £243.98 delivered from empire direct. all was well
3 months ago (approx.) the audio output goes wrong and i can't use my nice speakers any more, i have to use the crappy built in ones to get any sound. it came with a 2 year warranty so i tried to contact empiredirect, they have gone into administration. the name and website however have been bought by richer sounds. so i contacted them and they arranged for a local repair company to collect it and repair it. though it was the sound that i was calling about, there were also other problems ( a stuck pixel, regular freezing and the pvr sometimes forgot to record things) which i thought they might as well fix while they had it
a few days ago the tv finally comes back repaired. it works for a day or so, and now the screen won't display anything. i can sometimes get sound to come out but there's never any picture. this also applies for dvds/games consoles so it's not a problem with my aerial or anything.
i'm annoyed. i suspect my tv is just rubbish and would like a refund. i phone richer sounds who tell me they can't give me a refund because they only bought the website and the name, not the responsibilities, they advise me to phone the manufacturer but also give me the number for empire direct administrators. i phone empire direct admin and it's a pre-recorded message telling me they're in administration and then hangs up. so i try phoning prestigio who offer to repair it but can't give me a refund.
i'd really like the refund, i would accept richer sounds vouchers (might have more chance of getting that) because i will only have to buy a new tv anyway. i'm unsure about the repair option because it was so pointless last time and it took 3 months.
