I have a W595 being delivered today and its probably locked to Vodafone so Im looking for help on how to unlock it.

Judging by eBay unlocking auctions it is cheap and easy to unlock.
Item 300418046405 is for software that supposedly unlocks a wide range of SE phones including the W595 and is only 99p.
Item 300418046405 is for an online unlocking service and costs £6.99.

Anyone here used either of these methods or know of a free software download that allows unlocking this phone?

Don't pay for the software - you'll be able to get it online for free.

If you don't fancy doing it yourself (the guide above) then just pay someone to do it. £6.99 is probably cheaper than getting some dodgy market shop man to do it or one of those dingy independent phone shops.

But, check your CID version first. Download SETool, install it and open it, hold C down on the phone and connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable. SETools should report the CID version.

Thanks for all the replies; the phone just arrived.
It looks pretty smart for £64 (after Topcashback & Tesco club points).

Mine is listed as being compatible. :)

That’s what I figured if it’s being sold on eBay for 99p

I’d already downloaded Aerix a few days ago and just checked the release notes and it says:

“Supported phone platforms:
A2 DB3150 and A2 DB3210, CID up to 52”

Hopefully I’ll be less than 52 but not sure if I need to also check the A2 xxxxx details!

It’s on charge now so I’ll check it out later after I’ve downloaded SETools

Cheers. Agharta

I downloaded SETools from http://www.setool.net/ and AVG warns me that it contains the virus Themida. After doing some research it seems as if this is very ambiguous as the technology is used by legit apps as well.

setools is legit and fine, it's a false warning just ignore it.

Thanks, I did a bit of research and deduced that.

I’m getting an error message when I run SETools that says “Card Error”.
It was mentioned earlier that I should check the CID before running Aerix.
Anyone have a link to a legit version of SE Tools that doesn’t require a card!
I came across a Lite version so is that the one to go for?

If it's Cid53 then I know someone who can do it online for £5.

Cheers. I’ll see how I get on.

You're using the paid for version of setools, you need setools2lite, I'll upload it now, give me a minute.

Thanks. I managed to deduce that and have V 1.11 downloaded and installed.
Is that the latest version? It doesn't list the W595 in the drop down list.

Yeah setools isn't going to work with it.

It looks that way.
I’m using SEtool2 Lite V1.11.
I remove and reinsert the battery then hold down the C button and connect the cable and nothing happens. The SE firmware updater sees the phone (latest SE firmware) but Setool2 doesn’t.

Am I supposed to hit the Identify button in SEtool after I plug the cable in the phone?

If I use Aerix before checking the CID number will it brick the phone if it’s above 52?

Thanks for all the input. My phone is unlocked now and I’m really happy with it. I used to buy cheaper SE walkman phones for £30 to £40 when on offer but for £64 this is in a completely different class. It still has the Vodafone firmware branding for now but it doesn’t seem to be an issue.
