Help! Weird Macbook keyboard problem.

Hey all,

wondering if anyone might know what the issue is here. Late 2009 macbook 13in unibody. All the keys working fine in uppercase (capitals) but 4 keys (5,t,g,b) when in lower case are either not working or typing random letters numbers signs (ie: LiUoo%6*bn)

Is this a software issue as i think? as i said, the keys all works fine with caps on.

Or will it just take a new topcase?

note: two of the keys are a little loose but not the problem ones mentioned above.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Those keys are in diagonal line which would suggest they have shorted out. However I'm still puzzled that the uppercase is working.

Have you tried plugging in an external keyboard? If the same keys do not work then it might be the text to speech issue:

You could always take it to the Apple store.. I am sure the Apple "genius" could sort it for you there and then.

No Sh1t sherlock......A truly useless piece of advice ....... and pay a fortune for the privelege. Kind of goes against the whole idea of this website don't you think?

So i thought i would attempt getting some advice from some of those on here who might be able and willing to help in pointing out possible causes as 'mbeeching' has done above.

Note: i did try to post a update on this issue and to bring it to the attention of others who may have missed this post from a few days ago and may as i say be willing to help but i got a message from HDUK saying it was 'SPAM' just because i edited it a couple of times.

There are quite a few topics about this according to google, not throwing up many solutions though, apart from replacing the keyboard.... will keep trawling and will post up if I find something for you.

Hey thanks asayer for taking to the time to help........ i have tried an external keyboard and the lowercase works with that so not the text to speech issue but if as Mbeeching suggests, the 4 diagonal keys are shorted out what is puzzling is how come they work in uppercase?

Useless piece of advise which you will most likely have to follow in order to have it fixed.

I checked on google and people with similar issues ended up heading to the Apple store. Either this or you could possibly replace the keyboard yourself.
