6 points £200 fine and lose your car

Apparently : Police seize cars without insurance

New powers now allow the police to seize, impound and crush any car found on the road without insurance. A pilot scheme was introduced in Durham last spring. Since then, police have impounded more than 1,200 cars. Of those around half have been crushed into cubes and packed off for smelting.

I never knew that- I doubt they will follow through though. You will probably just be cautioned.

I feel sick now. Just when I thought things couldn't get a lot worse.
[mod]#10
And your insurance will be HUGELY expensive for a few years with a IN10 on your license.
#11
Am surprised the police let you drive away?

if your car is on your drive dont feel too sick, if it was in car pound somewhere then you would have been feeling sick :w00t:
#13
At least you found out now and take the penalty, rather than potentially hitting somebody and the problems that would have caused somebody else.
#14
9 points is standard for no insurance.
#15
Poor thing, i feel for you. Obviously a genuine mistake, hope you get it sorted.

6 points unless it's changed.........or if you go to court and before a magistrate and then it could even be a ban.
#17
From programmes on TV its a £200 fine + 6 points and they take your car off you to a storage compound. On top of the fine and points you then have to prove to the storage compound that you have insurance before they will release the car back to you.

The compound will charge you a fee for impounding your car plus a dayily fee for each day the have the car. After 14 days if you don't claim your car it is crushed.
#18
It is a minimum of 6 points. It could be 6- 8. Along with a large fine in the hundreds.

mmm I wonder why the DD was not paid,, and from past enqs, insurance companies send out a letter to say its not been paid :whistling:

If it was only stopped last month, surely you would have the certificate of motor insurane for the whole year? i get mine, so you would have that to show police and then explain it got cancelled in error? was it in error?

If it's not valid for any reason it doesn't matter.........it's upto the policy holder to ensure it's upto date and valid.

there is no need for us to see any certificate anymore , on the pnc data base we have information from the ins companies to tell us if the car is insured and to whom..:)

Maybe the OP was awaiting a CRB check to be able to start work....waiting nearly 3 months for the police to stop scratching their backsides and get on with it!!!:whistling:

Unless you have nicked the car......Then you go to court...They realise you have never taken a test and ban you (so you will not nick a car again, cos you're now banned:whistling:) Send you on a driving course (pay BSM to get you through the test:roll:), fine you £30 pounds and stick 3 points on the license you don't have:thinking:
banned#29
how long you passed your test if its under 2 years you may have to take a re test
hope judge in a good mood
fine goes on earnings
6 to 8 points if you explain you should only get minimum
insurance company should have contacted you and let you know insurance was cancelled
try and get them to reinstate them and pay them what you owe them may do it if you only missed one payment month

The police don't supply CRB's.
#32
If they issued you a fixed penalty it wiil be 6 points and £200 fine. More if you go to court. And ignorance is no defence It is your responsability to have insurance. That means making sure the policy is paid. And you will have to produce an insurance policy to get your car back. Also it's over £100 for the recovery and daily storage on top. Sorry to give you bad news. and an IN10 is a serious offence. Your premiums wil go up a lot.

exactly what it says.......not your fault personally I know but in these hard times it's very frustrating when someone wants to start earning and can't do because it takes oh so long to do a simple check.

It's just a raw and personal feeling for me atm

I'm 40 years old. When the police stopped me they phoned my insurance company but couldn't get through. I was given the pink forms and told to produce my insurance poilcy at the station. Haven't had a letter from my car insurers. Lots of different opinions just hoping they don't take my car away.
