Help! What's the best thing to take for blocked sinus??

I have never had a sinus problem before, but for the last month or so, my nose has been blocked on one side and when I blow my nose it makes no difference and remains feeling like it needs blowing! So annoying.
Can anyone recommend a remedy I can buy over the counter?...

Sudafed works great you can buy it in tesco, not even at the pharmacy. Take regular doses for a few days,it works great.

Thanks! I must admit though I took Sudafed a while ago to dry up a runny nose and it did nothing for me at all. Hopefully the sinus version will work though.

sudafed makes you tired and drowsy and is dangerous so be careful

i dont think sudofed will help. have a hot bath, and if you cant feel a difference, go see a doctor.

Vicks sinex nasal spray! always worked for me, an ex-boxer!

Vicks nasal spray (not the solid stick). Squirt this up your nose and it should partially clear enough for you to sniff some more which should do the trick.

Thanks for the advice. I just can't be bothered to go to the doctors! How ridiculous is that! Will go though if it doesn't improve quickly!

I had the same problem for a few months! I was terrible, went to the doctor he gave me some decongestions, but eventually gave me anti biotics as it was a damn infection! There's this nasal spray that is ideal for what your going through, forgot what it's called but it comes in a small white bottle with a blue label, the chemist do it and they'll advise you that you shouldn't use it for more than 7 days.

As a regular sinus problem sufferer i would recommend the vicks sinus spray that as previously been mentioned.

Also good is putting some normal vicks or about 8 to 10 drops of olbas oil into a hot bowl of water, leaning over it and covering your head and the bowl with a towel then inhale.

Drink plenty of water, and fluids this helps thin down sinus mucus.

If it gets worse and developes into a thick green/brown/yellow mucus with pains in your head and cheekbones then it as gone to sinusitis and this means a trip to the docs for antibiotics.

Regards

Roy

P.s

If you are feeling daring place a spoon of english or French mustard in your mouth and hold it there. No joke this was recommended to me by a scuba diver friend, and it does work.

Beconase is quite good but also nasonex is good depending how bad you have got it.I have suffered with sinusitis now for around twenty years, had three operations and still not better.I currently use nasonex constantly which helps but if you get severe headaches you may need to see your G.P.

Myself and other members of my family all use Sterimar which is a sea salt water spray, it's really good and contains no nasty chemicals, just sea water
Product info on this site http://www.optionsmedical.com/sterimar.htm
You can get it from Boots for £5.99, each bottle contains around 300 doses so it will last ages, hope it helps
