Help with 11yr old homework - Medieval Riddle

Hi, a friend of mine, her 11 year old daughter has been asked to come up with a medieval riddle. Any ideas on where to start, so far with a bottle of wine between us, we have only come up with ones that are completely inappropriate for an 11 year old!

Children act like they can't do it most of the time so they will get help because they are too lazy to do it themselves

How about......

During medieval times there was a farmer who went to collect some fruit, there was a plum tree in a courtyard with 16 branches, on each branch there are 5 twigs, each twig bears 4 fruits, how many pears will the farmer get off this tree?

Have you tried searching on Google ("Results 1 - 10 of about 846,000 for medieval riddles"); obviously not all sites will be appropriate, but there should be at least a couple that you can use to get an idea for creating your own riddle.

In Medieval times a coin was found, it was supposed to be a very valuable coin because of a certain date inscribed on the coin, it had a certain date on the coin, but no one could afford this coin, but then a very rich man wanted the coin, the owner was very happy that he had at last found someone that could afford the coin, but the man who was to buy the coin took one look at the coin and knew straight away that the coin was a fake.

HOW???
I will let you think of how he knew straight away that it was a fake and I will come back later with the answer if no one has got it, and then your friends daughter can use it.

Thanks so far, this one has got me. . . . . Is it a date from that long ago when there was no coins, or people or is it one of those chocolate ones. . . .

Will give you a bit more time to think about it, think about the date on the coin:roll:

Do you want to know the answer?

go for it

Part of the answer is

The coin said on it 10 B.C

so the man knew it was fake straight away, why with it saying 10 b.c did he know it was fake?
