Hi, when I was on aol yesterday it kept losing the connection. I got fed up and phoned aol for help, they checked my router and internet connection which is all fine as I can get on internet explorer. They suggested restoring aol which I tried but it didn't work.

I tried restoring my laptop to a few days ago but aol couldn't load. I uninstalled aol, this didn't help, then restored my laptop again which brought back aol, but when i signed on it got as far as checking password but couldn't go no further.

I'm stuck, my dad has suggested rebooting the whole laptop but this seems a bit extreme to me. Aol suggests that I have a corrupt file which isn't letting aol work.Any help with this would be very appreciated as I don't know what to to. By the way it's a dell laptop if this is any help, I tried phoning them but the offices are shut until monday. I have also tried downlaoding aol again but it gets so far and freezes, would loading it from the disk that I first had to set up the router work. Many thanks.

Forgot to add I tried downloading antivirus software from a tread on here and I'm not sure if this has conflicted with mcafee which is already on here.

thats why i dont use the aol software to get on as they have a timer that disconnects you after a certain time - just create a new connection - enter all your aol stuff and be gone with the aol ( you have email) software

A friend of mine has something similar and it turned out to be one of these new viruses. Give your machine a good virus scan and try again.

In my experience sometimes you can get booted numerous times a day for no apparent reason at all,in future when that happens don't do anything, its usually ok the next day.

I have also had the signing on problem where it will get as far as the checking password screen and will go no further, had to uninstall AOL in the end and then re-install it form scratch after speaking to loads of people over a 3 day period all suggesting various fixes that did not work so re-installing the AOL software was the only thing that worked in the end.

i know i've had nothing but trouble that's all i get is "AOL is not responding" i'm tied in for another year because my hubby bought me the laptop deal from carphone warehouse so next january I will be looking around for another internet provider. The only thing is I live in an area where there's not much options for broadband I always have to pay an extra £10 a month for the service provider to rent the line, as I was going to go with sky see speak surf but it would have cost £10 more. Hopefully by january things will have changed x x x x x
