Help with car hire in Spain (AGP Airport)

What do I do................ Looking for a Compact hire car, (Golf, BMW 1 size) and can not decide which hire compare to use or which type of car to go for!!

I have been on all the compare sites, directly onto each site too, and found not much in it on price...... however I still cant decide which one to go for..

Some hire car companies confirm the model of your choice while some give you a range of similar car types...

The question is....... do I go for a Ford Focus, Astra, or pay a bit more and get a Golf, or a bit more again and a BMW 1 series..

Its only around £40-50 more for the BMW compared to an Astra.... but i cant decide!!

ps.... Anyone used any hire car companes out of AGP Airport ?

Cheers

Personally, I'd go with the cheapest car that will suit your needs. I don't see the point in spending extra as I don't use the car that much on holiday - getting to and from airport and out for dinner mainly, but your needs may differ - dare say if i were going on a fly drive accross a country i'd pay out for something more comfortable.

When in Spain, or going to a Spanish Island i use www.doyouspain.com - i find them to be the cheapest, they are a broker who use many different companies - A word of warning though, it is unlikely that you will get the exact car you book - that is why the have classes, so you may find a focus and golf are the same class, you book the more expensive golf but get the focus and have no comeback as they always use the words "or similar". last year in Malaga I fell foul of this, ordered a Clio and got given a Hyundai Getz, had a chat with them and sorted it out, but basically there advise was to always book a 5 door with air-con (the smallest one available) and you will 9/10 get a free upgrade to a bigger car as they dont stock small 5 doors with air con. so esentially book a Clio and get a focus, but pay the Clio price!

Also watch out for expensive insurance excesses - doyouspain have no excesses on their vehicles, so the car is fully insured and it doesnt matter if you (or someone else) bumps it.

Hope this helps

Thats for that, I had looked at that site the other day, but I will take another look,

I understand the groups, and spoke to a couple of the local offices too to confirm what rolling stock they have..

The problem I have is I like cars.... taking into account my last car hires have been Volvo V50, S80, C class Merc, BMW 5 series, a New Mondeo, Golf, VW EOS.... and in the UK I have a A4 & Golf,

I think i may go for the cheaper option..... Sixt car hire are good for the grouping of cars which they class as premium, so they try to get you the car you order or better.......

I will keep looking!

Cheers

When you have used ^^ have you paid online or paid locally on arrival ??

I think i prefer to pay online and have the securcity of a booking ref and they have already taken payment....

One other bit of advise i would give is to always set the return time for the car 1/2 before the same time of the day you picked it up, i.e. pick up at 12:00 on Mon return at 11:30 the following Monday, that way you only get charged for 7 days rental, some companies will charge you 8 days if you take it back at the same time.

I've used them twice in Malaga (2007 & 2009) and twice in Tenerife (2005 & 2006) my dad has also used them a number of times, both in Malaga and Tenerife, we always pay on arrival, but phone the hire company first after booking to make sure they have the reservation and confirm the price on your booking form.

However there website does not allow me to book a infant seat... just a child seat from 1 years old which is a shame..

I have always used carjet at AGP

I have never had any issues with them, give them a go, worth an online quote

Managed to make the booking last night via Argus Car Hire,

Went for a Ford Focus or simlair, included all insurance, waivers etc, and was still cheaper than the rest..

(taking into account i have been looking for the last few weeks... well infact... last 8 weeks!)
