how can you run a program off the cd drive in command prompt its an .iso image aswell which is proving even more difficult to run.

chances are you will need to burn the iso to a cd as an image and boot from it.

IMGburn for burning the img.

Press f12 or f10 on boot up to get the boot menu and select cd
#2
D:
type dir to see folders/files
select required .exe file from root list or via chdir.x to look in subdirectory
type x.exe
this should then execute
#3
First, get your wife next to you, then type

c:
cd\
dir *XXX*.jpg /s /ah

run! (not DOS)

The burn image option may be within the copy section, what software are you using?

hi john. thanks for your help its Roxio i am using.

Any ideas on why and what might be wrong with the computer that makes it loose all its setting and logs me on with a temp profile.

thanks again..
this is only to try and find out what is maybe wrong with the harddrive. I am trying to run seatools to scan the harddrive..
i did this in windows and it failed the test and then it said that i should try in DOS and it may be able to fix what ever it wrong.

thanks

Can you get into your eventlogs? Have you tried running chkdsk from within Windows? The latter is a very simple utility but you can run it in read only mode and it will give you some idea whether there is corruption or other problems on the drive, additionally if you run it with the /r and /f flags it will offer you the option to run at next startup automatically to try and fix any errors.

Download ImgBurn from mirror 6 . untick ask toolbar. Then once installed just double click your Seagate ISO image and burn.

Then boot from CD either by pressing your boot key f12 f2 etc or setting bios boot priority and choosing the DVD-ROM drive first.

ok found chkdsk and running as i type.. but its going to take a while.. please stick around just in case it comes up with something nasty.

thanks John for your help.
Computers are great when they work but a pain in the behind when they go wrong. I am not that bad with computers but this is past my knowledge.. give me linux and iam fine. haha

This is the best disk to use:

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Burn with imgburn.

Disagree. The best is http://www.ubcd4win.com/

With the ubcd addon

Sorry A[L]C didnt know i need to burn the image and not just the cd..
Am trying the ultimate boot cd now.. but as these things take forever ill be a while. please be patient and thanks for your help people. I do soooo apreciate it.
I just cant get this comuputer back to my settings and profile.

ok looked at ultimate you have to buy it

ok now i have attempted to download the other one.. ubcd4win. but this one is only done on a trial basis and i have to add all my details for it.
which obviously i dont like doing on the net..
#17
irrelevant... you can add the one you linked, to the one I linked. Therefore mine is the best of both.

Does yours have recent malware removal? Like malware bytes?

No you dont, both the linked versions are free. The one I linked to you do need a windows cd however. They offer a paid version whereby they send you the cd, but you are free to download it and burn it yourself.

It's free, not sure what you are on about, and use imgburn to burn iso's.

At least we agree on this :D

Just install imgburn, right click on the iso and burn with imgburn
#20
right the ub one you can do a trial for 15 days and you have to add your details..
the other one mirror 6 imgburn i am downloading..
but its got to the end and wont open now.. great..

the chkdsk is now stuck and wont get any bigger than 43%
whats that all about?

right looks like it may have worked.. it did spit it out but it has got something on the cd..
now what reboot and press F10 or F12 at bootup
to get it to run???
#21
When you say stuck is it just sitting there doing nothing? If so you may need to wait a while as it isn't abnormal for it to remain on the same percentage for seemingly a long time.

Personally I'd back up the data, wipe the drive, chuck a fresh copy of Windows on and then scan the drive - if it's still showing serious problems then it's possible the drive hardware is on its way out.

The link that you gave takes you to the page and says free download you clinck on that one you get another page..
it says trail for 15 days or demo.. or its $299 so you click on trial..
Takes you to this link which you have to put ya details into.. which i am not all that happy about doing with a site i dont know..
http://www.r1soft.com/index.php?id=496

unless someone can reasure me its fine.
anyway i have burnt the image now..

just waitng for conformation on how to get it to work..

reboot and F12 or F10

will it just run the cd image?
#23
no its got nothing to do with google.
If you go to
http://www.ubcd4win.com/ you will see a box thats orange with freedownload in it.. which is you click on that it takes you to the next page where there is only a free trial or a demo.. or $299
#24
well actually no i am not dopey.. but you and that other nice chap have had a debate as to what site was better i tried both. both didnt really give me much the only one that did was imgburn mirror 8 which is done now.. but i need to know how to boot up from cd.. to get this silly thing to run.

anyway thanks for your help anyway.
you know how things are with computers you just want them sorted.
#25
OK, i think we should start from the beginning. What is wrong with your computer?
