Help with computer!

I was using itunes on my laptop today whilst connected to our wireless network when I noticed a subsection on the left hand bar (with devices playlists etc) that I hadnt noticed before - 'shared devices'. My sisters computer was listed and showed files that she was getting off limewire (which I dont and have never used). Should I be worried that my itunes/computer has been accessed by outside/3d parties and if so can anybody recommend any steps to take

thanks in advance

Your computer hasn't been accessed, your sister has shared files on her computer. Make sure you & your sister have up to date anti virus software and you should be fine. Files downloaded from p2p sites like limewire should allways be checked for viruses, as they are coming from random computers on the internet.

As long as you have at least WPA encryption enabled on the WiFi you should be okay.

I was on itunes at college on their wifi network. Someone was sharing their limewire files too.
Lets just say that they hadn't been just downloading music.... haha

I have up to date anti virus but my sister doesnt and she doesnt even attempt to scan files before she downloads them (one of theose people that thinks it will never happen to her!)

Do you know why her sharing status showed up on my itunes - it never has before

She must have enabled 'media sharing' in limewire. Important that she does get anti-virus software. Many modern viruses will 'self propigate' on local networks. I.E. they will spread from PC to PC themselves, without user intervention or even having to open infected files. Normally these kind of viruses will be blocked by NAT on your router, but once they are on local network they can reek havok. (We had a couple of these at work last year and they infected thousands of computers.)

if you're on limewire, surely your IP can be seen on the p2p network. i dont use it but i remember my friend showing me, and when u put in a search it does also the IP numbers.
