Help with eBay: need a landline phone number and a helpful person

Hello,

I just received an item bought from ebay, and I need to contact the seller. However, fleabay does not allow me to do it until my account is verified (they didn't ask for it when they took my money). They offer do verify my account by making an authorization on my card or by making an automated phone call which should give me a PIN number.

Unfortunately, they do not accept my Maestro card, and they require a landline phone number for the phone call option, and I do not have one and I have access to none!!! Damn mobile phones ;-) So I am stuck...

I was wondering if a really helpful person would PM me his landline number, receive the automated call, and give me the PIN number. I will then, off course, rechange the phone number on my fleabay account to mine (it should be possible).

I really think there are no risk involved, but help me only if you do agree with me. I will off course rep any helpful person, or anyone who come with a better idea!

Do you really need a random person off the interweb, surely you know at least 1 person in the real world who would do this for you?

Use a pay phone.

They need to arrange it for a specific time incase you still use dial up.

Incidentally - I gave them my number and they did this - but my account is still blocked.

In the world: yes!
In the UK : no! I have just been here 1 year (for study) and everyone is currently in vacations right now!!!
My guess is that, if ebay refuse mobile numbers, they must also refuse non-Uk numbers. Perhaps I am wrong

Great, I didn't knew that!
Might give it a try tomorrow.

How come ?!?
My account is not blocked, just not verified.

Do you mean paypal to verify your account not ebay? The sellers contact details will be on your ebay account or on your paypal reciept and emails etc
#5
My paypal account has been blocked for ages now. (Owned by ebay.)

They have never told me why, and the time spent on it became worth more than the money they were keeping.

It annoying - but I will find a better and more artistic way of redressing the balance and include my time in the calculation.

I wish...i got defrauded from a seller through Ebay and their contact details were nowhere to be found :x

Anyway you can still edit them at a later stage.

Thanks!
If you are sure about that, can you PM me your 'unused' number?
Do you have a preferred time for the autoated phone call?

No, I couldnt because as a result of being a fraudolent transaction the user was no longer registered (i assume that when Ebay realized they "unregistered" her before e-mailing me to let me know that the transaction was fraudolent - using a **** template e-mail - 50% irrelevant to my transaction) I called them and they would not give me the details, got the phone number from a kind forum member here and Ebay was very stad offish saying "where did you get this number from- next time we wont be able to take a call from you". It's a scam and I cant believe that is so poorly regulated. :x

Paypal is also a scam
another time I had a problem the seller I had to turn detective myself!!! He provided Paypal with a tracking number, only when they forwarded it to me it was sent to a different address and the signature was nowhere near like my name

Had to trawl trhough tens of his past transaction, contacted around 10 buyers from the same area where the parcel was sent to and asked if their name was so and so. One of the buyers got back to me saying that he bought an item (the same as me) and confirmed his name adn location was as for the tracking number. Armed with this infor I TOLD PAYPAL that the tracking number was not for an item sent to me at my address they eventually ruled in my favour!

Dont get me started lol

Ebay do this for a Reason and it's to help give us some sort of protection.
why anyone would help to break this is beyond me.
If this guy was to go on and scam someone remember who helped him!!
The scammers are not going to come on here and say "I want to scam someone, will you help me"

just my 2cents :whistling:

Come on, that is common sense of course a phone number can be changed in the account! Just like the address! I dint give away any big secret! Now is up to people own common sense to decide if they want to "help" or not, dont think we should use the word scammer so lightly :whistling:

Not really no

anyway the only reason he needed it was to become a verified member, to become a verified member he also needs to prove he has access to the bank account that he linked with the card.

I doubt he as hacked someones online bank, if so thats a much more pressing isue.

Either way completing the process of becoming a verified members gives anyway who buys from him / sells to him more protection I thought.

You might be right, but I don't see the point to do these verifications for a buyer. What scam can i do? EBay already have my payment method (paypal, which is part of ebay, and so my Maestro card number).

If RedIron wants more protection, I allow an admin to confirm that my HUKD contact adress is my university one. Hard to forge, and really not anonymous (has my surname in plain in it!) ;-)

All received and all fine, i've chatted on here by PM with nmerlet previously anyway on numerous occasions so it's not as bad as people are making out

Also by the way most of the people register a tesco internet phone or Skype or similar to do this and then bin the number after

Have you been a french ebay member for 3 years and still not used this account?

As I say you MAYBE ligit but one of the first tricks by ebay scammers is to use an account that has not been used for sometime, This was the first thing ebay told me when I was scammed (or attempted Scammed)

I am French, came here last September to study, and all my friends here attend the same university. Student do not really have an use for a landline, do they? And the ones that do are in holidays away.
Installing a BT line was so expensive that I choose mobile broadband via Three.

I would have joined v=earlier, but it tooks me 7 months to discover HUKD.
If I were a scammer, I wouldn't bust my HUKD account with all the troubles I had to get some rep :p. Way easier to use a pay phone!

I set a UK ebay account a couple of months as I wanted to sell an old cell phone. In the end didn't use it because of eBay fees for listing.

Hey! Are your trying to get hold on info on my eBay account to hack it?!? :w00t:

?!?
How can that be allowed?
I thought rep has to be earned, by posting good deals or helping others... I don't see the point of rep sharing 'for nothing'...
I am still interested though :whistling:

My paypal account has beens verified using my Bank account details.
My ebay one was not verified yet.

You might be right, perhaps I am able to contact the seller using paypal, but the issue is with the product sold on eBay, not the payment made via paypal.
