Help with Faulty TV / Credit Card Company

Hi All

We purchased a 19" Bush (say no more) LCD TV with DVD Player from CDiscount in October. Unfortunately with CDiscount going into liquidation we were unable to contact them regarding the TV and had no look with Bush so we contacted our credit card company which we used to pay for the TV.

We had a letter yesterday from the credit card company asking us to obtain a report from a relevant authority detailing the faults and the estimate to repair the TV.

I was just wondering what people would consider a relevant authority? Would it be a TV repair man or electrician? and how much would the report cost?

I am reluctant to pay for a report because we might fork out the money and still not get our money back, plus if the report cost £50, the TV was only £120. Do you think we would get the money back for the report?

Thanks for your help in advance!

How come you have had no luck with Bush. If the TV is under a year old and the POS has gone bust then surely the manifacturer should take responsibility. Id phone Consumer direct and see where the law stands on the year manifacturer warranty that comes with ALL consumer goods. Perhaps put the wind up Bush to get them to act on it before you start paying out any more money ;-)

I agree with Squelds... Consumer direct should be able to help and avice.

Off topic but in similar situation:

I busted my camera when I wend on holiday couple of years ago - I had taken out travel insurance - They asked me to get a report from a repairment -Cost £40 and they only paid me back £80 for a £150 camera as it was a year old! and no money towards to report - so got £40 and the travel insurance cost me 20...

Thats interesting info Zish, don't really want the hassle if thats all I'll get. I've just contact Harvard plc who manufacture Bush, was on the phone an age! Got a reference number for my call which I didn't get last time. So fingers crossed! I've got to try a few things when I get home then give them a call back. I know switching off the TV, unplugging it and leaving it 5 minutes won't work but the Indian guy on the phone was pretty insistant I need to try it. Thanks for the advice guys.
