Help with Guitar Hero please!

my 6 year old boy played a version of Guitar Hero (on the wii) at his cousin's house this New Year and loved it; so I persuaded him to use his Christmas money to get Guitar Hero:Legends of Rock with guitar for his PS2 (it was the cheapest deal at £25 delivered).

It (finally) got delivered today and we've had tears and tantrums because GH:LoR is tonnes more difficult than the version his cousin's got (and I don't know which version that is).

His cousin's version allowed access to loads of songs straight away (I think) and on 'beginner' it only expects you to hold down as many of the fret buttons as you can whilst hitting the strum button to the rhythm on the screen. There is no 'beginner level on GH:LoR and 'easy' is just too difficult for him at the moment.

Any ideas on which version I *should* have got, and where the cheapest deal is for the stand alone game.

Rep for anyone who can help - thanks in advance.

Guitar Hero 4: World Tour is the one with the beginner mode, you can get the game only version and use your GH3 guitar no problem.

Its £25 at the moment from Play but out of stock, its available in most game stores and supermarkets though...

The version your looking for is probably Guitar Hero III (3).

For what its worth it is one of those games that you get the hang of after a bit (although 6 is pretty young), are you sure its calibrated to the tv correctly? As it requires the buttons to be pressed at the right time, if there is any delay it makes the game much harder...

mmm, confused now - isn't Legends of Rock GH3? (probably not - I know nothing about games!)

I have no idea how to calibrate but I managed to get through 5/6 songs on 'easy' so I think it's ok. He loved the beginner stage on his cousin's version and was doing really well and getting the rhythm but having the fret buttons chucked in seems to have thrown him right off; even when I do the fret buttons for him.

Thanks for the help everyone - looks like I need to get world tour.

If you play on "practise mode" on GH3 you can never fail the song no matter how badly you play.
You can also slow the songs down to half speed but slowing them down removes the vocals.

Game have it in stock for £23 if that helps

What magic_monkey says is right, also there are cheats to unlock all the songs if you want (you just enter a code using the guitar).

GH: World Tour as others have said

Excellent! I've ordered World Tour from Amazon for £22.98 and I'm going to try getting him on 'practice mode' in the mean time (hopefully slowing it down is self explanatory).

Any tips on where I can get the cheats for unlocking the songs? I really want to try Knights of Cydonia myself!

See here: http://uk.cheats.ign.com/ob2/068/899/899095.html

There is a menu option somewhere where you can enter the cheat codes, enter the codes shown on the website above. (They are pretty long and it might take a couple of goes to get it right!)

To make it impossible to fail a song, insert the following code in the in-game cheats menu. Keep in mind that this cheat will not work in Career Mode: Green & Red, Blue, Green & Red, Green & Yellow, Blue, Green & Yellow, Red & Yellow, Orange, Red & Yellow, Green & Yellow, Yellow, Green & Yellow, Green & Red.

Cheat: All Items Available
To make every item available at the in-game store, insert the following lengthy cheat at the in-game cheats menu. Keep in mind that because you're strumming using four buttons, no sounds will play. You'll have to check the store when you're done inserting the password to see if it worked: Green/Red/Blue/Orange, Green/Red/Yellow/Blue, Green/Red/Yellow/Orange, Green/Blue/Yellow/Orange, Green/Red/Yellow/Blue, Red/Yellow/Blue/Orange, Green/Red/Yellow/Blue, Green/Yellow/Blue/Orange, Green/Red/Yellow/Blue, Green/Red/Yellow/Orange, Green/Red/Yellow/Orange, Green/Red/Yellow/Blue, Green/Red/Yellow/Orange.

This site is possibly easier to follow: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/code/939091.html

Thank you. I just had a crack at Muse, Cherub Rock and Reptillia by The Strokes! - I would lob a tonne more rep at you but HUKD says 'no' (boo, hiss!)

No probs, my pleasure. For what its worth GH3 probably has the best tracklist of them all IMO, although World Tour also has some really good tracks on it - theres more of a mix on world tour, but still plenty to please all tastes.
