It was recently my gf's 30th birthday and we all went away to Bournemouth for the w/e.
I took the video camera n made a dvd of the w/e 4 her 2 keep n remind her of her bday.
However, i have made the dvd n watched it on the dvd recorder/player but i cannot get it to work on any other dvd player, including my gf's.

I tried it on -r's and rw's (i think) but still wont play on any other players.

I think you need to convert it with the software that came with your Camera as its in a different file mode. See if it works on your pc and what file type it is

to watch it on a dvd player its needs to vob file, theres loads of sortware to do it
#3
If you made it on a dvd recorder type thing, you will need to finalise the disk.
#4
How did you make it?

If you made it using a DVD recorder (as opposed to a PC), you will need to finalise the disc to get it to play in other players, otherwise it will only play on the recorder which made the disc. Should be part of the menu options.

If you made it using a PC, then it would either work on all DVD players or none.

Brilliant guys, thanks.

Yes i made it on a video/dvd recorder combi unit.
How do i finalise the disc?

My gf will be SO happy if i can sort this out :)

yes, you definitely need to finalise the disk then, that's the problem, have a mooch through the menu, should be there, if you can't find it have a gander through the instructions

Cheers guys.
I managed to finalise the dvd but i then tried it on another dvd player and it still doesn't work???

It said something about DVD RTAV???
Does that mean anything to anyone?

I had to google it to find this out as I have never heard of it

No need for special software....The RTAV structure is just an alternative to the VIDEO_TS structure. Discs with RTAV are so called DVD-VR, you can burn it with any software (as data disc or DVD-ROM) on your PC, but can only be played in DVD-VR compatible players which are mainly DVD Recorder settop boxes....

The solution is to convert the DVD RTAV to a normal DVD with VIDEO_TS by using software on your PC and burn it to another DVDR

Links to software in this post from AV Forums

There is also a very good but long thread on there about recording on and using DVD Recorders and how to get the best out of them and their video recordings

http://www.avforums.com/forums/dvd-recorders-recording-media/101191-pc-guide-dvd-ram-inc-dvd-rw-vr-mode-dvd-r-28.html

It might be an idea in future to see if there is an option on your video recorder to record in normal DVD mode (some have this option, some don't apparently) or you will have to convert all recordings if you wish to use them on other DVD players.

Could you use someone else's computer, they would have to allow the conversion software to be installed on it.

Alternatively buy an external DVD burner for your laptop. It would a good idea anyway to have a back-up of the recordings just in case they get damaged.

Nah cant really use any1 else's pc.
I have an external hard drive too but don't think thats a dvd burner either :(
Any idea how much 1 costs?

An external DVD writer will set you back about £40, if you shop around you'll probably get it back a bit cheaper.
