Does the blue screen have white text on it before it turns off if so you have whats refered to as the blue screen of death which is a major system fault does you mum have the orignal operating system disc as you would have to do automated system recovery

Is it powering up to windows then getting a blue screen or just going straight to a blue screen?

Have you tried booting to safe mode or will it not let you get this far?

(To use safe mode press F8 before Windows starts to boot and it should bring up a boot-options menu on which you will find safe mode)

it does both

Be wary of downloading software of the internet without knowing exactly who makes it and what it does - there seems to be quite a lot of evidence for 'regcure' to potentially be spyware...

your best bet as jah128 said is to try and get it into safe mode just old down F8 as its booting and hope it gets to where it needs to get to.

when laptop is powering up just after bios finishs loading keep pressing F8 to see if will allow boot of safe mode
#16
won't let me do it in safe mode
#17
If you can let me know what model it is, I may be able to help with discs as I have two of them albeit a bit old now.

I also have a recovery disc for windows somewhere and that's what we used when we had problems with one of the machines.

How do you mean exactly - can you not get to the menu or does it crash when you choose safe mode?

By the way, there may be a 'recovery' partition on the hard disk which would let you reinstall windows (this will probably fix the problem but you will lose all your data and settings) - someone else with a Toshiba might be able to advise here...

has it worked since she bought it? if not, then it might explain why a guy was selling it at a car boot.
