do you have a pc and not a mac?

it needs formatting for PC

right click on it from my computer and format it to either ntfs or fat32

is you are on mac reformat using disk utility, make sure it is set up to read and write to disc

if its WD,make sure you remove that smartware crap as well

I'm on a mac, I'll try this, however I've just noticed when moving the hard drive when it's plugged it makes abit of a whirring sound?
Is this normal :s
and just because I'm moving it?
And it was copying some data and I had to move it, and I heard some clicking :S

do the format to to get it checked over, but somehow i think you are out of luck

gah!

one more thing, does the usb cable have two usb plugs? if so use both, or try a rear socket, the unit might not be getting enough power
such devices can sometimes be fussy

Only came with a single USB..

or try a rear usb socket (if its a desktop)

any luck with it so far?
#11
Only just got back home.. it only appears to make the noises when moving it, when plugged in.
#12
Could it just be that I moved the hdd when it was in use?
As most of the time it will be just stuck in the ps3..

I have a wd 120 portable usb, i cant say that i hear a noise from it even if you move it while its working

if it works reliably and smoothly, then its probably ok, if its not working for you still, then hope you can get it replaced
