Hi

just got Vista home premium OEM and going to install on a machine I'm building but have just read the front of the pack and it goes on about "for system builders only" and needing an "OEM preinstallation kit" etc etc.

Am I OK to install this on my home built PC?

Will it istall OK on a clean machine?

Will I need a system builder ID etc?

Will it activate?

Will i be OK?

Is it all scare mongering?

Hope I haven't go to send it back, assumed it was like XP used to be.

Thanks

Pete

It will be OK...

It should have only been sold with main parts of a PC (Motherboard, Hard Drive etc), not seperately.

But, saying that, Microsoft have no clue that you didn't purchase that with a Hard Drive etc.

Installation will work fine.

Hi browni, are you sure. I don't want to break the seal an then find out it's pants. I know MS have changed the rules a little for Vista. have u installed an OEm copy yourself?

thanks

Is the serial code and key sticker with the disk?

I don't know, I would have to break the paper seal and reomve the outer cardboard around the DVD box before I could see the DVD box itself. It was bought from Ebuyer - windows vista home premium 32bit eng 1pk dsp dvd.

Has anyone else bought it from ebuyer?

I am expecting them to be there

Yeah, They'll be there then.

It should install fine :)

Whats your system specs?

As long as its above the minimum and 1gb of ram it'll run ok.

Spec will be fine I'm just worried in case you have to enroll on some system builder program and use some wierd tool to deploy it to my pc or something stupid like that.

Nope, Its basically the same as the retail version, Just cheaper as its meant to be used by system builders who buy new hardware etc. But it doesn't make much difference to Microsoft's billions!!

OK Thanks, it was just that the the label threw me saying oem system builder pack etc. just opened it and it's got the key in there so should be OK. Disc looks a bit ropey though.
